I need a comfortable chin strap!

Post by muirwoodsue » Tue May 05, 2009 5:35 am

I have been on my CPAP machine for almost 2 months and WOW - I feel so much better!
I love my nasal pillows but can't keep my mouth closed. My current chin strap - basically a chin pouch with 2 long straps with velcro
at the ends always falls back or off. I don't know if there is one that can be incorporated with my headgear. I could have
sworn I read something on this board about it.
I can't believe the energy I now have. It's truly a miracle.

Thanks so much for your help
Sue

Sue,

I've been using the same chin strap since I started xpap in December. I got a "do-rag" at Wal-Mart for $1.99 and use it nightly. I put it on, then the chin strap, then my Swift LT. With the do-rag, then chin strap stays in place, without it, the strap slides on my hair and usually ends up coming off at some point in the night. Another alternative would be the pap-cap:

Hope this helps a little.

I've recently been using the Respironics Premium chinstrap and find it quite comfortable. It has a strap across the back to keep it from slipping.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/premiu ... hleak.html

Prior to that I used the PAP Cap from pursleep. The advantages to the Premium strap were
1.) Much cooler
2.) The strap curves around my chin right up to my lower lip, helping to keep my mouth closed. The PAP CAp has a straight, flat chinstrap that dug into my neck and didn't flex.
3.) The Premium strap doesn't give me matted down "hat hair", that couldn't be fluffed even after using large hot rollers.

So far, I'm quite pleased with the Respironics Premium chinstrap. I wish I had discovered it a year and a half ago.

Bev

And no, I was not included in the prduct challenge

I use the PapCAP. I really think it saved my therapy. Got my leaks to 0.00 L/s nearly every night. I find it to be very comfortable.

The Respironics one looks like it would be very good in hot weather.
Sleep well and live better!

Finally I got a chance to read the replies. Thanks so much for the great suggestions. I like the idea of wearing a "do rag" which would would help the
current strap from moving. I'll try that first. Then the other 2 suggestions.
Thanks so much for helping me out here!

My favorite is the Deluxe Chinstrap from https://www.cpap.com. The knockoff, not the name brand. Same product, less expensive: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/deluxe ... hleak.html

Many people think this looks big and uncomfortable. I have not found this to be true. It breathes very well, and is very comfortable, IMHO.

Second choice is the NEW Ruby Adjustable Chinstrap. Old Rubies, and the old Topaz are very hot. They are making this from a new material, and it's supposed to breathe better:

Third - the PAP CAP gets high marks from many on this forum: http://www.pur-sleep.com/products/produ ... category=6

Good luck!

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

i've found that the puresom ruby chin strap works, sometimes using a cheap sports mouth guard to augment that. after 14 years being disappointed, this set up works quite well.

Its my choice now the summer is here. It would be great improvement if the PapCap could have some kind on vents in the skull cap.
