Re: VS vs. Teeth Grinding
Paul, It's good to hear that the dental appliance doesn't interfere with your therapy. As a long-time teeth grinder, I can tell you that I am concerned about the effects. Two years ago I had over $10,000 worth of crown work done to deal with the fact that I had ground my teeth down so much. At that ...

Re: Switched Masks
I ordered a Swift LT from CPAP.COM last night paying out of pocket. I could wait until I am up for a replacement mask from my insurance and try to beg my DME to give me one but that is a good six weeks away. I have not been able to get below 12 AHI with my current setup with 25 AHI being about avera...

Re: Off topic ( Smoking )
Driver- I wish that I could give you the magic method for quitting but there is none. I smoked for over 35 years and tried to quit dozens of times. I tried cold turkey, hypnosis, patches, gum, Zyban all multiple times. My mother died of lung cancer four years ago (she smoked most of her life) and ye...

Nurse-led protocol found not inferior to physician-directed
Well I'll be. Interesting study on alternative to a full blown P$G. Caveat - note that xpap manufacturers had a hand in the study. http://www.modernmedicine.com/modernmedicine/Modern+Medicine+Now/Simpler-Apnea-Treatment-Model-Deemed-Effective/ArticleNewsFeed/Article/detail/585874?contextCategoryId=4...

Re: Call For Feedback: Delete Spam Button + New CPAPtalkers
I too have been registered for a very short time but absolutely have no problem with a time and/or posting requirement. This forum is so very active with a bunch of really good members that I would trust them to anti-spam on my behalf until I had aged up. One month might actually be a bit too soon.

Re: Nicotine usage
Although diagnosed with OSA many years ago, I was one who did not tolerate CPAP and went on about my life doing my best to ignore its' effects. I did have UPPP surgery at the time that gave a very modest improvement (the pain to benefit ratio was about 2500:3). I was a fairly heavy smoker 1.5-2 pack...

Re: UPPP and CPAP
Thanks everyone for your thoughts. And Jeff, running in CPAP mode is a great idea. I think that I will try it. I try to resist tweaking variables too fast but this I might have to try right away. But if my missing uvula could fool the APAP, could it have done the same in my sleep study? Perhaps anot...

UPPP and CPAP
Does UPPP prevent CPAP from working well? I am now in my 4th month of using CPAP, my second week of using the data-capable APAP that I bought out of pocket. Diagnosed with OSA more than a dozen years ago and had UPPP surgery (removal of soft palate) with limited success. When the symptoms of OSA cam...

Re: Newby says thanks
Dittos : I too have just joined this forum after having been lurking for quite a number of weeks and must give a huge Thank You to the members here. I was diagnosed with OSA some 16 years ago. I underwent UPPP ( a surgery I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy) with marginal success and tried CPAP then ...
