titrattion (pressure ) setting
titrattion (pressure ) setting
hello I am newly diagnosed and have an issue my nurse could not answer for me. My insurance will not pay if I do not use my equipment, so I have to hang in there for a month until i see my dr. my problem is when my unit reaches pressure after the ramp when I exhale my tear duct in my eye leaks out air. when I complain to my nurse she said the setting on my machine is like a prescription and only my dr can change it. I sleep wonderfully when im ramping but around three to four hours i am woken up by cotton mouth and the dreaded leak any advice?

Contact the doctor and discuss the tear duct leak - it has to be solved, this is not something you're supposed to get used to as the time goes on.

Re: titrattion (pressure ) setting
The dry mouth you're experiencing... are you using a mask that covers just your nose, or are you using a mask that covers both your nose and mouth?
The machine you have listed is the ResMed S8 Vantage autopap. Is that the name that's written on the top of your machine?
The reason I ask is that there is a newer model of the ResMed S8 auto, which is called ResMed Autoset II. The AutoSet II allows EPR to be used in auto mode. The older Vantage can't use EPR in auto mode...EPR is available in the Vantage only in "cpap" mode.
EPR is a feature that can be set to drop the pressure when you exhale. It can be set to drop the pressure 1, 2, or 3 cms each time you breathe out. That might be enough drop to prevent the air-out-the-tearduct problem that is disturbing your sleep.
If you have a Vantage, I'd see if the doctor will order a change of machine to the Autoset II and order EPR to be turned on for you. You can then experiment with the degree of EPR you prefer...with how much actual drop in pressure works best for you for exhaling.

Re: titrattion (pressure ) setting
Don't they make a mask that will cover the whole face, that should keep your eye duct from leaking since the pressure will be the same on both sides. The link below is for a total face mask, it has very mixed reviews but it may be a solution.

Re: titrattion (pressure ) setting
Thanks everyone for responding to my post. After reading the replys, I am going to push my dr for a visit today or at least a review with his nurse. I am using the resmed autoset 2 with the nasal gel mask and head gear. Last night I had the same issues again. even with the leaking I have I still have excellent sleep during ramp time and a little while after. The autoset has a heated humidifyer that I keep heated on a low setting. I will post my results with my dr later today.
