I have a question for everyone. During my sleep study, it was discovered that I suffer from restless leg syndrome (RLS). I've seen this condition mentioned several times in different posts here. Is this somewhat common with sleep apnea? I've been prescribed clonazapam for the RLS. I've got no way to really tell if it's working because I didn't even realize I suffered from sleep apnea until a sleeping partner mentioned snoring and the gasping for breath. I seem to be less sleepy during the day than I was and I hope things get better.

Jeanne,
I have been on CPAP for five years. I have been on Clonazepam for the same time, but have recently quit the clonazepam. It made me drowsy in the daytime. First I started splitting the tablets in half. Then the sleep doctor recommended Melatonin. I dropped the clonazepam shortly after I started taking the Melatonin. I am hoping the melatonin will help me sleep without making me drowsy in daytime.
I am 61 and read that each of us produce melatonin in response to darkness, but oldsters like me have reduced production of the hormone. I dislike taking drugs to sleep. I dislike insomnia even more. I have found this forum to be a great help. Do any of you guys have knowledge or experience with these sleep-aid drugs?

Melotonin is a natural way and if it works for you, great, like taking sugar pills for me. Clanazopam or similar drugs are sedatives and not really good for restless legs. Mirapex is really good for RLS. Nothing beats Ambian for sleep but you get immune to it. Hoprfully something good in the future.
