my air smells funny

Post by ciounoi » Thu Apr 09, 2009 6:46 pm

About two days ago the air in my bipap starting stinking a bit. This was fairly sudden, no huge leadup. I clean my bipap (fairly) regularly and there's no obvious mold or anything growing anywhere. I changed the white air filter but that doesn't really seemed to have helped. What could this by, and how should I get rid of it?

In addition to OSA, I also order up random food I don't like while I'm asleep.

Could this be the problem: "I also order up random food I don't like while I'm asleep."?

Maybe stowed some sardines and onions while asleep?

Haha, I wish, but the only food item near my bipap is my neverending supply of Junior Mints.

Found the problem! It was my GREY, not my WHITE filter.

I came to this post thinking you were talking about something totally different. I thought funny was an unusual word to use.

Just shows, doesn't it, how different minds work in different ways.

As you can see from my avatar, I'm a herbivore, so maybe that has an influence.

Wash grey filter regularly. With soap and water. I use Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Castile Soap.

Change white (fine) filter whenever it looks dirty.

But wash Grey filter often.

Cheers,
B.

I never wash the grey filter, just vacuum it with the hose from a canister vac. The white one I replace every three months.

Was something spilled on the filter or was it just that long since it was cleaned? How long since you cleaned that filter?

My air is smelling funny...though at least it isn't a bad funny....

I started working back from the mask, cleaning things...until I realized that it was coming from the machine itself....I even tore everything off (filters/outlet port) of the machine and ran it to check.

Its a residual smell from having tried pur-sleep. I guess now that I've found a scent that I like...I could order it and overpower it. Only problem is that I don't remember what the scent was....

I had gotten the starter pack from cpap.com -- https://www.cpap.com/productpage/Pur-Sl ... -Pack.html

And, before I order a refill(s)...I'm gonna want to know what that was.

I can't really describe my memory of the scent I liked....except that it smelled green.

The Dreamer.

... smelled green??? Interesting way to put it. I was wondering what purple smelled like, or maybe yellow... I think I may be missing out of something here. I know I can smell orange but I think that is as far as my color smeller goes. Is smelling green like a grass smell or something? I love the smell of grass! My cats get fresh grass to eat occasionally and when the grass dies even the old dried out grass smells great. Pity someone can't bottle that smell. Or maybe that is the "green" you are talking about. If you ever figure out what that green smell is I'd love to know. I'd love to get the smell of a clean spring day on the inside of the apartment, but I can never get that scent no matter what kind of smelly stuff I buy.
