OT to touch the human spirit
OT to touch the human spirit
Doug and I have canceled our end of August trip to Grand Junction
to ride the Tour the Valley. We were presented w/another opportunity
that just could not be missed.
We are going to be part of the support crew for a
Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure Walk the last weekend of Aug.
~1.5K people, after raising $2.3K each, in pledge funds, will walk 60miles in 3 days.
All money going to the fight against breast cancer and supporting victims and their families.
We are going to be on the route safety bike crew.
Approx. half of the miles walked will be on bike paths and through parks,
that will not be accessible to the car or motorcycle support crew.
We will be carrying water, snacks and will have radio contact to call
for medical support, if needed. We will be assisting walkers
through intersections and crosswalks.
We will also be there to provide emotional and spiritual support.
I know that through my personal experiences, I will be able to meet this
incredible opportunity and challenge.
I have always been a participant in these kinds of things.
I have done 7 MS150 bike rides to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis.
I have never been a volunteer or on a support crew.
In the past 2mths, my sister-in-law is a breast cancer survivor.
Seemed like this opportunity was presented to me, at this time,
for a specific reason. Accepting this opportunity was a no brainer.
It is my chance to touch the human spirit.
Crew are not required to raise pledge funds.
I have paid $90 to cover my expenses.
I have chosen to see if I can raise some support.
If you would like to help, please go here:
http://www.the3day.org/site/TR?px=53592 ... g=personal
I would love to hear if you have someone that I could ride in support of.
I would love to hear if there is someone that I could ride for in memory.
I would love to hear if you have done one of the walks.
I would love to hear if you have suggestions to help meet the
spiritual support needs that I will encounter.
I can't wait.

Re: OT to touch the human spirit
Carbonman, Thank you for your time and support to help find a cure. My family lost our Aunt Mary on May 3 this year when she lost her brave fight against breast cancer. She is missed by us all and we will always cherish the good times we had with her. I got ya going with 25 bucks in memory of my Aunt Mary. Have fun and be safe.

Re: OT to touch the human spirit
I'm grateful Carbonman, you have my support. I lost my only sibling, my beloved Sister at age 59 to this dreaded disease. This event coincides with my birthday so thank you for my gift.

Re: OT to touch the human spirit
I thought I would bump this up to the top of the forum for another look by anyone who missed it. Let's help Carbonman reach his goal for next weekend. It's for a great cause.
Re: OT to touch the human spirit
My sister is a Breast Cancer survivor for 12 years now. We also lost our Aunt Mary to bone cancer last Christmas. My cousin Timothy P. Brooks, 36, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, died of brain cancer in 2004. He was a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Lets help Carbonman achieve his goal! Carbonman you are an inspiration to all of us!

Re: OT to touch the human spirit
WOW....it's really starting to come together.
I have started to learn what a massive effort goes into this...
and I'm going to be apart of it.
The logistics of where to be and when.
Days to start at 4:30am until 6pm?????
I got my official crew credentials this weekend,
crew meeting is set for Thurs. pm.
Bike has been cleaned, shined and oiled.
Camera bag transferred from road bike to mt. bike.
I plan to take a lot of pics.
I want to thank my supporters for your donations.
YOU have already been a great inspiration to me.
I will do my best to validate that support and
the memories of your loved ones.
I can, only in my wildest imagination, wonder
what an incredible experience this is going to be.
I will try and keep you updated, as I can.
If this is considered inappropriate for the forum,
I will post in PMs.
See you on the road.

Re: OT to touch the human spirit
Dear Carbonman,
I am finally getting caught up on my cpaptalk news. I think that it is so wonderful that you are donating your time to this very worthwhile cause. I was recently diagnosed with a lump in my breast, but was very lucky to find out that it was benign. Curing breast cancer is a cause very near and dear to me.
Please let us know about the whole experience when you have time.
Warmly,
Jersey Girl
