How Much Did Your Sleep Study Cost?

Post by RipVW » Mon Mar 30, 2009 9:48 am

Saw this poll on another website, thought it would interesting to us here as well. An overnight sleep study, a polysomnogram, may cost from $1,000 to $5,000 for each night, according to various discussions online.

You should clarify before or after insurance. You should also clarify insurance billed vs insurnace paid as those numbers are often vastly different. I was shocked to pay $0 for both studies. I have no idea why it was covered at 100% but I appreciated it!

AND......maybe specifying with or without the doctor fees for reading the gall durned thing. I had two doctors charge for the same thing (reading the study). It looked like the insurance rejected the local doctor's bill (who didn't do diddly squat), but with all the other charges and deductibles, it was hard to determine just WHAT was paid and by whom. My "sleep study" (by itself) wasn't initially as expensive (billed/paid amount) as many others I've seen reported since then.

Here "cost" simply means "cost." The poll doesn't ask how much one paid, how much insurance paid, out of pocket . . . Just "cost."

Cost can mean cost to me or cost to my insurance...The word "cost" doesn't clarify anything...

Sorry. Here, cost means the fee charged (nothing to do with who paid what, write offs . . .). "Cost" is the fee charged by the provider for the sleep study. Hope that helps!

Then I answered wrong. They charged the insurance more than $3k, I believe. I paid $0.

Doctor (2 consultations)

This last sleep doctor was DEFINITELY GROSSLY OVERPAID considering his actual worth!!! He was DEFINITELY WORTH my CoPay which was $0.00
The four sleep doctors at my local sleep clinic were all much better than this overpaid, low calibre, sorry excuse for a sleep specialist (or doctor for that matter).

Didn't cost me a dime (out-of-pocket).

It was still the most expensive 6 hrs I've ever spent in bed. And the least fun...

They billed about $3500 for the sleep study, my cost was around $700. Then it cost me another $500 once the DME was done fleecing me.

Riddle: Why is CPAP so expensive?

Answer: BECAUSE IT'S WORTH IT!!
