New User Software question

Post by Aero Man » Tue Mar 24, 2009 6:19 am

Last month I received my first CPAP machine (100% compliant so far) and I just installed Respironics Encore Viewer v1 w/ ext USB card reader. Installed a “.pdf print” add-on, and have learned how to read Encore charts and change machine “Setup Menu” from “Provider Quick Setup Guide”.

I travel frequently in my job and have found a European source that sells Encore Pro v 1.8i, Release II to us patients (restricted to European consumers). I can buy this software on my next trip (but not cheap).

From this forum I’ve learned that the “Pro” version also tracks patient demographics, which is irrelevant to me as an individual. Trying to learn if this current version of Encore Pro offers added patient-specific benefits, additional config capabilities, etc beyond Encore Viewer?

Your thoughts?

BTW - this is my first post so I'm crossing my fingers that signature below displays info properly

Hello & Welcome, Aero Man! Glad you found this forum—SO much useful info and everyone here is so willing to help!
EncorePro also lets you adjust your machine settings via the software (transfers the settings to the smartcard so you machine automatically makes the changes). There are other differences, I'm sure, but I'll let our experts chime in here as well.

I have Encore Viewer and have never used Encore Pro. There is the opportunity to change settings via the smart card but you can do that on your machine in the setup menu.

There is a program called Encore Pro Analyzer, developed by one of our forum members that is for Encore Pro and does not work with Encore Viewer.

The data from both Viewer and Pro are the same. Since you have a PDF program to save your reports, you are all set there.

Others, who use Pro may have other things to say.

For my purposes (monitoring my sleep apnea) Encore Viewere does everything I need.

I have both Encore Pro 1.8i release 1 and Encore Viewer. Release 2 has some color correections for running in Vista and I think that is the only difference. If it were not for James Skinners Pro Analyser I would not care about the features of Encore Pro. Encore Viewer restricts you to not erasing the card. This can be done with mycpap.org utility. It also won't let you reset your pressure - it is easier to do that by pushing the buttons. But Pro analyser which looks at the Pro data base give so much more information and you are able to look at the trends and change the length of the trends. The trend lines in Pro and wiewer are in my opinion junk. Pro Analyser really make it great and for that reason only it is worth the trouble to put up with the SQL data base and run Encore Pro.
