http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod. ... PLST-0-CAT
I am a huge fan of nasal irrigation and was curious to know if anyone uses this machine, or one similar? If so, how does it campare to just a squeeze bottle or neti pot?
Thanks!!

Hmmm ... looks lot like the Hydropulse

Wonder if it is any quieter than the Hydropulse?

I've used the Hydromed system for years. A friend of mine suggested it to me -- he described it as "like blowing your nose, only much better." I can't think of a better description.
I haven't used a neti pot, for comparison. But I'm a firm believer in nasal irrigation. At first I irrigated every day. After awhile, I shifted over to only irrigating when I feel a sinus infection coming on. I haven't had a bad sinus infection ever since, at least until a few weeks ago. At the time I was visiting an ENT surgeon, and during the course of looking up in my sinuses, he said he noticed some infection so he Rx'd an antibiotic for me. He recommended that I irrigate .

I LOVE my netipot! That one web site makes it sound like the netipot is ineffective, but I just don't believe it. These electronic devices look like they do the same thing, just with more pressure. I thought I'd seen an attachment for the waterpik that allowed sinus irrigation as well, but I'm not sure.
That site also says that it can be used for children as young as 6, but not the netipot. I'm not sure why....

It is not actually that much more pressure but rather the "pulsating" action of the flow that is different. It helps to loosen things up a bit more while flushing.AmyE wrote:I LOVE my netipot! I'm a huge fan of the Neti pot. Started using it a few weeks ago, and was greatly helped by it.

Re: Sinupulse nasal irrigator, anyone use one of these?
I don't have that brand. A few months ago my doc suggested I get the Grossan Hydro Pulse nasal/sinus irrigation. The Price was about $95.00. It looks almost the same as the picture you posted. Water Pic also has an attachment., you can use, but several people have told me, it has a tendency to dribble water out of the handle.
I had used the bottle, and the neti pot prior to buying. I have Chronic Sinusitis, and I liked the bottle, but much prefer the Hydo Pulse. The neti pot wasn't as useful to me. I use it morning and evening, and this is the first winter in years that I have not had a sinus infection.
When I first used it, I didn't read through the instructions and left the hydro pulse at the highest pressure. I thought I was being waterboarded. Duh, after I turned it down to the right pressure, it was downright soothing. If you get one, use it about two hours before bedtime. Your nasal tissues have an opportunity to dry, And my doctor suggested Distilled water because of all the chemicals in tap water.
I have no idea if the two preform about the same, but if mine broke, I'd be ordering another one that day.
The best to you.

I always like getting two for the price of one. I use the RhinoTip with a very nice WaterPik. Brush my teeth, nasal irrigation all in one shot.

I'm beginning to agree, the Rhinotip is superior to using NeilsMed. And, NeilsMed is pretty easy to use, does just fine....
take care,
SG

looks like a water pick for the nose LOL
Re: Sinupulse nasal irrigator, anyone use one of these?
It is a WaterPik for the nose ("you can Pik your friends...")!
The orginal Grossan (HydroPulse) attachment was just a simple attachment that connected to a regular WaterPik. After awhile, he started selling the WaterPik as part of the bundle. Same thing with the tongue and throat attachments too. Back in those days, it wasn't all that expensive. He now also sells pre-mixed Ringers powder, so you just have to dissolve a tsp or two in water.
It is very gentle, unless you crank up the pressure (I've done that a couple of times!). It isn't so much messy as it is "wet". You do this over a sink so your nose can drain. After you finish, if you tilt you head the right way, you get a little bit more leakage. No big deal.

Re: Sinupulse nasal irrigator, anyone use one of these?
The SinuPulse is far superior to the Hydro Pulse which is a glorified oral irrigator, a cheap water pik and the reason they break down so easily. The SinuPulse while similair to a water pik can actually deliver both a pulsating mist spray and rinse. The pulsating mist spray is excellent for use with medicated or targeted rinses, rather like a nebulizer but with a pulsating mist instead of the vapor.
It is far more durable since the pump and motor are encapsulated. The pulsating irrigators are the best method of nasal irrigation availanble to clean out bacteria and stimulate the nasal cilia and the SinuPusle is the best of the pulsating devices.

According to my immunologist/allergist the method of delivering saline into the nose is not as important as actually clearing away some of the deposits and freeing the nasal cilia to do their job more effectively. At least, that is my understanding.

My nasal rinse has no preservatives in it, either. Yours doesn't have to have them, either, depending on your choices of water and salt.
From the University of Michigan, I found this recipe. I halve the amounts and make it fresh each time.
1 c. warm water (distilled is additive free)
1/4 t. salt (sea salt or kosher salt have virtually no additives)
1/8 t. pinch baking soda

Re: Sinupulse nasal irrigator, anyone use one of these?
I started out using a neil med squeeze bottle and had such great results that I spent the money on a hydropulse. I had great results with the bottle, my sinuses were more open than they have been in years. I got the machine and wow unbelieveable. It cleaned my nose out more than the bottle. My son uses it too and it helps cut down big time on him getting a bloody nose.
He is nine years old can you imagine trying to get a nine year old to do this. Just tell him he can watch the boogers run out his nose and he will be standing in line waiting.
Anyway, I use the hydropulse which looks very similar to the unit you show. With mine I did get two complete sets of tips. The solution that hydromed is supposed to be slightly better in that it doesn't effect the little hairs if you use it in a stronger solution like other solutions.
