ResMed S8 Escape CPAP - just saw one

Post by dsm » Tue Aug 02, 2005 5:02 pm

These units are amazing - tiny !.

From the pictures I thought they might be 1/2 to 3/4 the size of an S7. But they seem to be about 1/4 the size.

Am guessing it is even smaller than the 420 although it appears to weigh a few ounces more. It also has a built-in power supply (240/120 + 12v).

(PS I will take a photo of it in my hand & post on the Internet with a link here)

I've had a good look at the S8. It is very small, almost cube-shaped. I don't think that it is, overall, smaller than the PB 420 series, expecially when you attach the integrated humidifier.

It is a very cool device; should be quite a contender if/when they build an auto into the small S8 platform.

Buy a new hat, drink a good wine, treat yourself, and someone you love, to a new bauble, live while you are alive... you never know when the mid-town bus is going to have your name written across its front bumper!

If their S8 AUTO is the same as the Elite/Spirit relationship, it will be a software only difference.

I have the unit in front of me now & my comment about it being 1/4 is not correct 1/3+ may be more accurate.

I'm trying to figure out what type of data card it takes. The picture makes it look like a SONY Mem Stick ?. The panel the card slides in via can be removed & a serial port (9-pin) panel can be plugged in. I have a mem stick at home - will see if it fits!.

The humidifier show in the clinician's manual is the normal ResMed Humidaire or a similar sized passover device. The little S8 looks lost sitting in the middle of it.

Setting the values in it is the same procedure as for the S7.

Cheers

## UPDATE - just spoke to a medical equip dealer who said ResMed told him that within 3 months they would release a specially designed humidifier - no word on if it is a proper heated one (unlike the 2i).

Just found the data card

The data card *is not* a SONY memstick. I just found the card that came with this unit. It is slightly larger in size that a memstick but the contacts are similar to the RemStar data cards. It is about 1/16th wider than a Sony memstick card, it seems longer too.

So this means new specialised readers & cables etc: etc: (the serial cable mays be the best home option but even that is $80).

Just did a quick check of ResMeds S8 data management accessories & they look to be dearer and a few more bits than the RemStar software + reader.

What do mean - the 2i isn't 'proper'?

One soft, sweet song's just enough to clear my head...

Hello,

Just wanted to clarify on the 2i discussion. The 2i is a heated humidifer:

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... ifier.html

and has a heating plate. There is however a 2iC which is a cool passover that looks exactly the same but does not have a heating plate:

Hope that helps.

Thanks,

I called the clinic just to clarify after I had made my post. My comment is incorrect, as you have pointed out. The issue with the 2i though (As I understand it) is that it doesn't control the temperature the same way the RemStar or GoodNight units do. They set precise tempratures for a setting. The 2i (AFAIK) is a bit more of a hit and miss afair in setting temps.

Cheers

CPAP.COM lists the 3i as the humidifier that is to be used with the ResMed S8.
