help w/remstar auto

Post by Flower51 Terry » Sat Jul 30, 2005 5:23 am

Well....I've had my remstar autopap for awhile now and the rt never came back to retrieve the "smart card" for the two week "trial". I'm hoping this means they've decided to let me keep the auto instead of trading it in for a cpap or bilevel, and honored both my and my doctor's request.

Thing is....not only don't I know anything about the smart card's findings but also I don't know anything about using this machine other than the actual hooking up the hose and humidifier at night and cleaning it.

I don't know what the numbers that appear in the little box mean. I don't know how to set up or change cflex numbers, humidifier or air pressure numbers or even see what they are set at now. I did manage to change the humidifier setting a couple of weeks ago but somehow when I tried the same thing last night it didn't work, so it probably WASN"T the "same thing"

The little box when I first turn it on does say 4.0, cflex and H2O. It also has other numbers on it before I turn it on. Last night was 6.something. Prior to that its been 5.something for many days.

Also on more than one occassion feeling around for the correct "farthest right hand stop/start button" in the dark so I could turn off the machine for bathroom breaks, I've hit the wrong button...prob the "sideways right triangular button".....what does that button do? What could I have done to my settings by hitting it accidentally????

So....can anyone give me a readers digest version of what stuff in the little box means and how to change things????? I don't want to call my rt to ask for the manual because it may jar her memory into coming over, reading my smart card and then switching it out for a different machine.

Thanks, Terry

Hi Terry
You can download you very own manual from http://remstar.respironics.com/literature.htm - it might not have cflex in the manual for the auto (you'll find that in the pro and plus machines) but it will have everything else you need.

As for messing up your settings in the dark: I wouldn't worry. PAP machines are made for use by people fumbling in the dark - there's no chance you changed your settings radically by that fumble. The company would go out of business if they tried selling machines that let this happen.

I can't give you more info, since I don't own a Respironics -
Happy hunting.

Terry,
When you're going through the settings, now that Ozij (leave it to her) gave you a link to the manual, make sure you set the backlight to 1, which is on, meaning you can see the buttons light up in the dark. Otherwise, there is a setting so that it doesn't light in the dark at all. I guess some people are bothered by the littlest amount of light, even the backlighting on the control buttons.
If you need further help, viewtopic.php?t=3864&highlight=cflex, go to the part where Sick & Tired starts discussing changing the settings. You may find this post helpful.
Good luck.
