? for RG..following up on Remstar Pro2 and data it provides

Post by yawn » Fri Jul 29, 2005 4:56 pm

Hi RG....in another thread you said:
"As a side note, the REMstar Pro 2 that "yawn" has is a straight cpap which can give overnight data beyond just hours of use. But the REMstar Plus cannot. "
Is that really true???? I brought my smartcard to my DME hoping she could "dump" the info. for me but she said my machine (or card) will only tell if/when I turn the machine on each night. I was hoping to get some of the data I hear alot of people talk about getting with their APAP. Was my DME lying to me???? Shame on her.

Hi Amy,

I presume that YOU have a REMstar Pro 2 since you mentioned taking the card to your DME. According to CPAP.com's website, the "Plus" version apparently does not have a Smartcard.
I also have a REMstar Pro 2 CPAP w/Cflex. If your card is in the machine, it's gathering data. This data is very well documented in the "CPAP Reviews" (above) under Derek's review of the Encore Pro software. It gathers sleep times, apneas, hypopneas, snoring, mask leaks, pressure data, compliance days and more. If your DME doesn't know all of that, she's "not very well informed" (I'll be gracious here).

If you want to know more and take control of your therapy, you'll need to either smarten up your DME or get the Encore Pro software and card reader and do it yourself..

Good luck,

Den

Den,
Don't mean to doubt you but are you sure the CPAP smartcard collects all that data? My DME specifically said the CPAP couldn't do that but the APAP could. Boy, that really frosts me if she's wrong. I'm trying to find literature from the manufacturer that confirms what you said. I checked my user manual and it doesn't specify what the smartcard is capturing. AARRGGHH!!
Thanks for the info. Den!!

Amy,

I'm POSITIVE!......I look at this info each and every morning after I get up.

Here's the URL for Derek's review.

viewArticle/Encore-Pro-Respironics-CPAP ... Derek.html

Now, the REMstar Pro model does have a Smart card and does capture most of this data, but the PRO 2 captures more. And, I gather that you have the Pro 2 model.

One of the neat features of the software is that you can save your data in various forms. I save mine in .PDF files. You can also save it in HTML and (I believe) other formats.

It won't show it in the user manual because it's in the Encore Pro manual and the doctors and DME's think we're all too stupid to know anything about what they're getting paid the "BIG BUCKS" for. It's a guaranteed income for them.

Later,

Den

Den,
I do have the Remstar Pro2 CPAP with c-flex!! I don't understand why my DME would lie. Maybe she's misinformed (I'll give her the benefit of the doubt). Thanks so much for the info. I'll have to figure out what to do from here. Amy

Amy,
Here's the site - found by googling "remstar pro 2"

http://remstarpro.respironics.com/
And here's the info:
REMstar Pro 2 with C-Flex combines the amazing comfort of C-Flex and optional integrated humidification with the power of Encore® Pro Data Management Software. And now with the ability to record apnea/hypopnea index, elevated leak levels and snoring, it’s the most versatile CPAP we’ve ever offered.

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you. I printed the info. and will show my DME. I have a question, if I had the Remstart Auto (instead of the CPAP), would I still need a card reader and software?
Thanks, Amy

Hey Yawn
Just wanted to let you know I went through the same thing with my DME on the same machine. I did exactly like you are going to do, I printed off the info and took it into her, she couldn't believe that she was that misinformed, after reading everything she called her rep about it and really found out a lot of things she didn't know, but before I brought all the info in she told me I was crazy, that it just did the basics. Thank goodness I had all the info from this website cause I would have ended up with something I didn't want.
Good Luck

Yes, if you want to see data from the REMstar Auto you'd need a card reader and the Encore Pro software. Same card reader and software works to see data from the REMstar Pro 2 cpap.
