How do I clean my headgear?

Post by nobody » Mon Feb 04, 2019 8:54 am

I don't think just throwing it in the washing machine is going to clean it. I didn't realize it was getting so filthy, but now years worth of skin oils is set in it and it smells nasty. Do you think boiling it might work? Anything I should put in there with it to break up the oils? This mask isn't being made anymore so I can't easily buy a new headgear.

Pre-soak in the sink; then machine wash in a lingerie bag.

I just wash ours in warm water with a little Ivory liquid dish soap in it. I use the same thing for our mask cushions and strap pads.

You'd be surprised. Most people that do that though use a lingerie bag.

I've always hand washed my p10 headgear, both for cleaning and to shrink down again. usually when I do my mask and humidifier, hot water and dawn.

I am curious about using the washer / dryer for their p10 headgear. How is it for spring back down and returning the elasticity? What water temp, cold, warm, hot?

i've been tossing mine in with the laundry for quite a white now, seems to work great, and since there's no velcro, it doesn't get stuck to anything else.

I've got a few of them, one comes off, and goes into the laundry, another one goes on, then when the cleaned one comes out of the dryer, it goes into the spare batch.

I'll pick-up a lingerie bag and give it a go next opportunity.

I usually wash in cold water, will see how well that and the dryer will shrink them back.

I don't bother with a lingerie bag with the p10 strap. I just toss 'em in. But, if you want to bag yours, there's no harm.

Tried that, it didn't take the oils out or the nasty smell. It is really set in there and hardened. Going to try soaking next and boiling after that.

how do you keep your "dainties" separated, then?

i use a lingerie bag because i'm already washing out the scunci and goodie hairbands anyway. i wash 6 of those a week, plus 3 elastic bands, in with the regular laundry load. just makes it easier to find them rather than digging through the rest of the stuff.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

For my P10 headgear, I hand wash, rinse, & then let soak in water for at least 5 minutes. I then wring it out & hang up to dry.

I put mine in with the wash and then into the dryer, been doing it that way for years with no problems.

Repeat a wash in the washer but throw in some oxy clean with it and maybe use the pre-soak mode on your washer as well. Wash on hot cycle to deep clean it and it should come out good as new.

Amazing how much oil can build up on those straps in a short period of time. I used to hand wash my headgear but after seeing a oil slick in the water that I could not completely wash away cleanly that I decided to use the washing machine instead. Been perfect ever since.

I wash mine in a laundry bag along with my padacheek straps. Thanks for the reminder.....
