3 Hour Diet

Post by JimH » Wed Jul 27, 2005 10:34 pm

I would have posted in the how fat are you thread but it has gotten so large. Has anyone here tried that new three hour diet. It seems to be getting a lot of buzz and after reading some on it, seems to be a valid plan. Though i did a little profile and it said I could lose up to 40 lbs by December 11th. Boy if that could be met. Needless to say its an entire way of looking at how you eat and when you eat. Obviously you have to eat something every 3 hours (except at night when sleeping). 3 main meals and 3 snacks. the food can vary but recommended menus tend to favor high protien foods. The whole idea behind it is to keep your metabolism going without it going into starvation mode. When this happens they claim your body will start to feed of of muscle first then the fat as the fat has higher energy in them and the body wants to store that.

Anyway, has anyone tried this? Did it work? Is it a lot of work to keep on the diet?? good thing is you don't have to avoid carbs.. All in moderation and timing.. Sounds like something I could do.

I've tried a variation, called the 3 minute diet. I make sure I'm eating something every 3 minutes. Can't manage more than 3 meals a day, but I sure enjoy the snacks

My Dr. recommended a similar diet. 200-250 calories every 3 hours (6 meals a day).

Personally, I found a better diet. I simply weigh myself while holding a cat. If I gain weight, I just starve the cat. Xmas is a bit rough on cats, but the supply seems to be endless.

It sounds like the pretty standard "eat several small meals a day vs three big meals" to me. I actually found that I eat more during the day trying to stick to a diet like this.

My own diet is pretty simple, I have a cup of plain oatmeal for breakfast (doc also wants me to lower my chlorestorol). Lunch I have have a sandwich and glass of skim milk. Dinner is whatever either I or my wife makes but never really that big of a meal. Not a whole ton of calories during the day. I don't know if I've lost weight during all this because my wife threw out the scale a couple of months ago. Claimed it wasn't working right.

My two biggest problems, as I said in the "Fat" thread, are that I work a desk job and haven't been getting exercise since my martial arts class folded so what calories I do get stick around, and the fact that I'm a soda junkie. I got my bike up to snuff over the weekend and am going to start riding a few miles a day before work so I'll start burning more calories. Plus, in the "Fat" thread I had gone from Pepsi to Coke (less calories) to Diet Coke. I've found these little Crystal Light "On the Go" Iced Tea packets. They've been great and got me down from the Diet Coke. Basically they're a little packet of Iced Tea mix. Dump one in a 20oz bottle of water and you're good to go. Only 5 calories each and 99% caffine free. I'm using these to get off my caffine addiction. Doing pretty good so far, it's Thursday and I had one Diet Coke at work this week. Starting to get a handle on it.

This is a diet that many fitness magazines recommend. When I was more into running I was successful using this type of diet. It is call "grazing" because instead of having three large meals a day you nibble a little every few hours. I lost over 30 pounds in 3 months and was able to keep it off for 5 years. I kept fruit, veggies, or some other nutritious snack handy and just munched when I felt hungry. It has to be healthy food; you can't graze on candy, chips, and soda and expect to lose weight. It is also extremely important to remember that you can't eat three big meals and graze too. It won't work. I always set a goal for how many calories that I needed in order to lose/maintain weight (there is a formula using your height, goal weight, and age to determine how many calories you should be taking in) and then I would budget that throughout the day. I planned so many for breakfast, so many for morning grazing, so many for lunch; you get the idea. I also found it important to journal my eating habits. Every time I ate I would log what, when, and why I ate. I recently found my journal from when I was losing weight and it challenged me to begin again.

I realize that this may seem like a lot of work but, like anything in life worth having, you have to work at it. To succeed you must have a goal, a plan, and discipline. If you can't see it, you won't go for it. If you don't have a plan, you plan to fail. If you have a plan and can't stick with it, you will never make. My goal is to lose 35 pound in four months. My plan is to limit my calory intake to 1750 per day and exercise a minimum of four days a week for 30 minutes. Now all I need to do is do it! ( I have already begun and have lost over 10 pounds and am feeling great.)

One note, before I started xpap therapy I couldn't do this. I had no energy to exercise. I also fell into the trap that many others do when overly tired, I ate to try to maintain energy. After a month and a half on the hose, I am feeling well enough to begin living again!

I will lie down and sleep in peace Ps 4:8

Two week diet

Post by SnoreNoMore2005 » Thu Jul 28, 2005 12:26 pm

I never tried the 3 hour diet, but I did try the two week diet one time.

All I lost was 14 days.
