Clinical manual for Respironics BiPAP Auto M series?

Post by Beldain » Sat Feb 07, 2009 8:05 am

Would someone please let me know where I can get a PDF of the clinical manual for my Respironics BiPAP Auto with Bi-flex M series? I'd like to look through it to better understand my machine. In particular, my wife swears that last night it started alarming and I had stopped breathing (sounds like a central event). I can't find any indication that the machine has such an alarm. FYI, I'm currently set up for BiPAP 13/10; the auto function shouldn't be enabled on the machine.

Thanks!

If you'll PM me your email address, I'll be happy to send you a PDF of that manual.

The "alarm" (repeated beeps) your wife heard is most likely the Leak Alert. I keep that setting turned off on my BiPAP Auto. It beeps if a "Large Leak" has been going on for a certain number of minutes:
In the manual, the cause is described as:
The breathing circuit is disconnected or there is a large air leak.

Probably would also happen if a person is mouth breathing while not using a Full Face mask.

Not necessarily a "central" event at all. You may have been making diaphragm movement efforts to breathe she couldn't see, or you may have been breathing lightly in a way that was not noticeable to her in the dark. If she was used to hearing that rhythmic in/out varying sounds of you and the machine using IPAP/EPAP/IPAP/EPAP and so on, and was now hearing just a steady sound (from the Large Leak) without hearing the in/out of breathing from you, that could have made it sound like "He's not breathing!" when you actually were, but your breathing was covered up by the steady leak sound. Just guessing here.

Another alarm (repeated double beeps) can happen if there is a system error. The power would stay on but the airflow would shut off.

There's no alarm on that machine for "person stopped breathing" or for "central apnea." It was probably just a Large Leak situation.

Good. Glad to hear that, 'cause I haven't received a PM from him.
