Wake up With Soar Throat

Post by TdinovaSt » Thu Jan 22, 2009 4:23 pm

Hello, I've been using my cpap m/c for 3 years or so with not many problems. BUT lately almost every morning I wake up with a soar throat . The heater seems to be using the same amount of water and I sleep pretty dam good.

I started exercising about 2 months ago every day at the gym. That's a good thing .. I'm 6.1 and 262lbs.. Now I weigh 245 and same height of coarse.

I'm using the C-Flex Rem-Star/ pro and the nasal pillow mask . I clean my mask every day, hose once a week, I use distilled water..

What do you think??

Thanks, Blair

The group helped to figure out that my mouth was "leaking;" air was coming out through my mouth. My mouth was really dried out, but often when I mouth breathe, I get a sore throat, or a headache.

Hello & Welcome, Blair! Glad you found this forum--SO much useful info and everyone here is so willing to help!

The only time I've had sore throat issues was when I had mouth leaks (as OCNorsk suggests) with a nasal mask or open mouth with a full face mask. If the CPAP air is escaping or entering through the throat, that really dries the throat out. Good luck!

Some folks here use mouth taping, others use a chinstrap to keep their mouth closed. And, you can practice keeping your tongue on the roof of your mouth--sounds a little silly, but you can actually train your tongue to stay put there, tip of tongue against the upper front teeth.

2nd nite in and not as bad.. I practiced the tongue technic the 1st day.. That nite was 100% better , no soreness. Last nite was 95.. I think this form is fantastic with fast replies..

Thanks a lot
