I'm not a "medical" person, but I would put my money on "allergies" (in varying degrees). I don't have the "leaky faucet", but to some degree, I can relate to the congestion part of your description......a deviated septum can contribute to some of that, too.

Have you tried lowering your humidifier setting - it works for a lot of people who get congested.

thanks Den & julie for the come backs . w/cpap i'm fine. it has really helped me. i keep humid @ 1 setting, seems to work best. i think allergies are possibly part of the cause although i was given 2 different series of tests @ Vanderbilt last year with no significant esults . i am wondering if possibly my cardio insufficiency has something to do with symptoms. symptoms relent if i get up and move around some. being more active seems to help. i have a dental appt. tues.... so i have started the recommended anti biotic prior, otherwise my dentist says i am a liability for him. rock on tim

I had that going on all night last night. Finally turned the HH down to 1, and fell back asleep. It's a constant variable. If I run at 1 for awhile, my throat starts to feel dry and raw during the day.

Good luck!!!!

I've had this for a long time, and it's gotten worse in the past six months. I'm seeing an ENT doctor and so far we've tested for allergies and found none. I'm taking an anti-biotic right now to see if that helps. It's not. The next step is to (excuse my lack of medical terminology) roto-rooter my sinus cavities out so that they can drain 'normally'. According to my doc, this operation works for about 80% of patients.

I have a friend who swears that his sinus issues went away when he quit eating/drinking dairy products. This is one allergy (food allergy) that my doctor didn't test for - I don't even know if you can test for it? I'm pretty sure that, before I try the surgery option, I'm going to try and cut dairy out of my diet for one month to see what type of results I get.

dairy products interesting. .. i know we are all different . environment ,not just genetics comes into play with sinus issues.who knows what might trigger a histamine reaction. the rheumatolagist has thrown out names like rhinitis, sinusitis .that doesn't help me any. low pressure systems seem to bring on the sinus headache. changes in altitude when at(moms house in Md.)....my son does need allergy shots every now & then...i just try to use common sense and throw back an anti histamine to stop the drip/sinus headache, use saline spray regularly and only reach for the afrin once in a great while. i love the affect, but know it's like crack . o well enough of my whine, time for some milk & black walnut cookies ...i should be thankful i have not had to use the eppie pen yet as the anniflaxis has not reappeared in over a year .

I would bet doing a daily nasal rinse for a while would make a big difference.

Not dumb. Not at all. But you may want to google "nasal cycle."

I do have tons of allergies so that is my cause but here is something

doctor said that milk products are a no brainer and that we weren't actually meant to ingest milk -- breast milk is what our systems were geared to (since milk is what infants drink -- calves = cow's milk; human babies = breast milk) and not dairy products.

Dairy products make mucous production worse. More mucous more stopped up and clogged you become. She says they are finding that for some wheat is another culprit.

Might try cutting them back or out to see if it helps.

What is your mask made of? People are becoming more and more allergic to the latex in the masks.

slayer - my ent told me(which makes sense) that allergy testing, since it uses the serums used for treatment will only find treatable allergies. many people are allergic to other items that there is no treatment for. by way of talking about it we reasoned that long term exposure to some items (petroleum products since i'm a mechanic)produces allergy systemic indications such as stuffy/runny nose. thinking about it i was always getting relief when i toook long weekends or vacations and was away from that environment. so what's a guy to do. i'm too old to start over. in your case (which mirrors mine)think about what you have in your daily environment and try to remove yourself from it.one thing at a time till ya figure it out. not sure why our body does this but something to consider.

good luck rick

I have some experience of a similar condition. I've being using neilmed sinus rinse, (daily in the shower) for a complete remission. Might not work for everyone, but for me it was a miracle, just like I found CPAP to be!

Cheers

i might have to look into some other kind of rinse ...allergic to latex, not the problem although my mom sure is. bless her heart they unknowing used latex gloves on her right after she broke her hip & pelvis on nov. 17. that bed sore is just now healed. she is finnally in a wheel chair now & coming along on the walker. for 90 she's a trooper..but i digress..fuzzy, dunno what envionmental thing it could be. i do know my nose is very sensative to dust & mold smell. cannot tolerate a sour dish cloth & the wife can't even detect...i can go on violent sneezing fits where i can't hardly get my breath...and i'm like what the he^^ brought that on. guess i'm done typing now this freekin ringing in my ears is really aggrevating sometimes. thanks all, this is some great family. tim
