Parathyroid?

Post by herefishy » Sat Dec 22, 2012 7:59 am

Just a heads up since there are folks here with all kinds of problems. If your calcium levels are just a little high, you might have a malfunctioning parathyroid, especially if your PTh hormone levels are up. Often misdiagnosed.

Good to know. Will stash that in my "just in case" tidbits. Sounds like you may have just gained some experience with this?

Yep, seems like it can cause all kinds of strange symptoms, and at the very least, can leach the calcium out of your bones.

I had DRAMATIC results w/Forteo over a 2 year period. So much so that we opted for a 3rd year of Forteo, still have some improvement but so minimal we decided it was not worth the expense to my insurances to go a 4th year.

Whilst I still DEXA'd w/in high risk range, still I GAINED 10 years worth of bone loss back to my 1996 risk levels for both hips and spine.

The problem is deciding what to do AF (after Forteo). I can't do oral bisphosphonates so we opted for bisphosphonate infusion which was no help to speak of. Very minor improvement in hip or spine, I forget which, and continued definite loss in the other area.

We do continue w/Vitamin D supplementation and occasional bloodwork.

WOW SLinky! holy cow! I was hesitating on doing the Forteo but now I am glad that I did since you have had such great results!! YAY! gives me hope! I am only on my 5th Pen Needle as I keep forgetting to inject myself so I need to pick a better time like before bed or first thing in the morning so that I remeber to do it. Thanks for the feedback- I appreciate it.

Vit D--YES! i take 5,000 IU per day and that keeps my levels in the range where I need them to be. That Vit D is wonderful stuff. hahah!

I was on 100,000 IU vitamin E a week, then eventually 50,000 IU a week, now 50,000 IU every other Friday. Vitamin D blood draw every 6 months.

I had the surgery about 16 years ago herefishy -- recovered some bone density.

Best wishes on the 8th!
