Masks wear out ?

Post by Crest » Sun Mar 22, 2009 6:39 pm

Hello,

I've been using a Mirage Activa Nasal Mask for about 10 months, do these things wear out? Is there a recommended time frame as to when to change your hose ?

Marty

It depends on the equipment. I haven't (yet) been able to wear out my mask or hose in four years.

My recommendation is that if it ain't broke, don't fix it----and don't replace it just because your insurance says you can!
DeVilbiss IntelliPap Std Plus with Smartflex; Transcend miniCPAP & Everest2 w/humidifier & batt for travel. UltraMirage FFM; PadACheeks; PaPillow. Using straight CPAP at 13.0/passover humidifier. AHI consistently < 1.5. Began CPAP 9/4/08.

I have had some mask parts break. So I like to keep a couple of the same size/brand on hand for replacement parts. My Insurance allows a new mask every 6 months. I usually only get the cushions every three months and the mask every year or so.

I make sure that I have a way to keep my mask functional, especially when communications have broken down with the DME. Right now I am between DME's so this strategy seems sound to me.
