CPAP in the movies or on tv?

Post by Wango Kroy » Tue Feb 17, 2009 9:56 pm

I guess I've got too much time on my hands.

Just wondering with all the bedroom and sleeping scenes in the movies and on television, has anyone ever seen anyone with using a CPAP machine. How about a CPAP machine at bedside?

With sleep apnea affecting so many, one would think the script writers or stylists would put CPAP in the picture sometime.

i can see it now, after a hot and sweaty love scene, "goodnight honey ", and he/she rolls over, and slaps a mask on.
or a child has a sleepover, "hey bobby, my dads dartth vader, wanna go see"

Perhaps you do have too much time on your hands.

CPAPs may be absent from the bedroom like review mirrors are from the windshield of cars in the movies/tv. You know that they are there.

I heard sleep apnea mentioned once on the Soprano's. Never saw any equipment, though.

Also, one of the shows my kids watch, Drake and Josh, had an episode where a house guest needed a "machine to stop snoring". The equipment they used was obviously a prop. It sounded like an old Hoover vac.

Coincidentally, I just saw that episode. Junior was prescribed a CPAP machine, and there was a scene when he was at home with his girlfriend and fell asleep on the sofa and she put on the mask for him.

On Big Bang Theory, Leonard once said, "Lets just eat so I can get to bed. With any luck, tonight will be the night my sleep apnea kills me."

Only place I ever saw one was on "The Biggest Loser" in one show.

I saw one not long ago on a Discovery Health channel "Mystery diagnosis" show. It was about a man who had all kinds of problems with his heart (tachycardia, etc) and they thought he didn't have long to live. Finally after seeing a bunch of specialists, someone thought of sleep apnea. He was tested and then prescribed a CPAP and is apparently still alive to tell the tale.

They showed the sleep study and also showed him going to sleep with cpap on.

Big World Little People have discussed sleep apnea as the dad was diagnosed.

Of course you don't see bedroom scenes there -- at least to my knowledge when I have watched their show.

I saw that one quite a while ago and don't remember for sure ... I thought they showed a cpap machine and mask though that could have been in the sleep lab....

Anthony Hopkins, my costar from Meet Joe Black, wore a FFM in Silence of the Lambs.

Huh. Not only have I never seen one on TV, but I notice all the OSA brochures show one or two people sleeping very peacefully, smiles on their faces and not a CPAP machine or mask in sight.

I want THAT CPAP system..

An episode of CSI:NY involved a suspect with insomnia. The woman was shown in bed
with a mask and hose. The episode was titled 'Night Mother.'

The first time I saw it, I thought "what is she doing???" Now being somewhat knowledgeable
about CPAP...THAT'S WHAT IT IS!
