For Sale (?) Card Reader and Encore Pro
For Sale (?) Card Reader and Encore Pro
I've not been very active here the last year or two, and don't know if there's a rule about offering items for sale. May I?

Re: For Sale (?) Card Reader and Encore Pro
If you are offering Encore Pro for sale, you need to specify what version.
Not all releases work for all xpaps or for Vista.

Uh, because I've never heard of it?
According to the CD-ROM, it is version 1.4i, rev 4. I bought it about 3 years ago, so I know it is an older version. It always worked fine for me under WinXP. The card reader is the Infineer from Hong Kong.
After 2 years of measuring my metrics I got bored. It's all very fascinating when you're a CPAP newbie, but my results were so consistent that it was getting to be like being a meteorologist in Los Angeles....

Re: For Sale (?) Card Reader and Encore Pro
Can anyone tell me for sure if this particular version would work with an APAP I am awaiting delivery of? It is a Respironics M Series Auto CPAP Machine with C-Flex W/ Heated Humidifer (DS500S) and I am operating with Windows XP Home.
This is the URL of the machine I am waiting on:

Thanks,
Tracy

Re: For Sale (?) Card Reader and Encore Pro
1.4 can be used for a "tank" such as a tank APAP or Pro 2, but not any m series. It can not be used for a bipap auto tank or otherwise. I think it can be used for the old bipap pro 2 tank. It is the version I have and use myself.
The card reader is a salable commodity but the software would have a very limited audience.

Re: For Sale (?) Card Reader and Encore Pro
I wanted to offer the items to people in this community, which has helped me so much, rather than to the general public. Thanks to RipVW, I've now been introduced to CpAP auction .com, and a visit there shows me that it is an offshoot of cpaptalk.com.
I'll try to list this stuff over there....
Gracias,
Doug

Hi there---you can place things for sale on here if you want----we even do trades on here. Some of us do not like CPAP auction .com. We like the friendly atmosphere of this forum---:)

Re: For Sale (?) Card Reader and Encore Pro
I'm seeing a lot of information on the board about Respironics software, and readers, and data stored on cards, and machine models. I think some of this info is wrong, or contradictory, or confusing.
I believe the following to be true.
My machine is the Remstar Pro with Cflex. It is the model sold before they came out with the new M series 2 years ago. It has a data card and stores on that card up to 2 weeks of detailed usage and event statistics. On night #15 it overwrites night #1, so if I don't offload the data at least once every 2 weeks I lose some. In addition, it stores a much larger number of nights (I'm not sure how many) simple usage hour stats. I own 2 cards, so on a long trip I could switch cards after 2 weeks and I'd be O.K. for up to a month.
To read the data off of the card, one needed a card reader device, and software, for one's PC.
The USB card readers were available fairly cheaply directly from the Hong Kong manufacturer, Infineer/Mako, and many of us ordered them.
On my Win XP PC the reader was sometimes tricky to install, and if I ever changed USB ports it seemed I had to let Plug and Play discover it all over again. I never figured out whether the problem was mine or the drivers, but once recognized, the reader worked fine until I needed to change something.
Encore Pro software was never intended to be used by consumers, but many of us found the data it reported to us to be useful, so we bought it. I have version 1.4 and 1.5
Encore Pro gave us information about leaks, and arousals, and the number and duration of breathing interruptions during our sleep.
At some point Respironics stopped selling Encore Pro in distribution channels that users could access. They wanted to restrict its use to the audience for which it was designed - medical providers.
At some point after that, they released a simplified Viewer software, which I know nothing about.
Encore Pro stored its data on our hard drives in an SQL database. We could keep unlimited data forever.
Despite the rich lode of data available in Encore Pro, some people wrote software that manipulated the data even more, or more usefully. I no longer remember the name of the supplemental program I used, but I loved it. Maybe it was "My Encore"? I probably still have that on my hard drive somewhere.
After reading my numbers regularly for 2 years I lost interest. Everything was stable, and I was not getting anything useful out of seeing the same numbers night after night.
The software HAD been very useful to me in the early days, as I was using differnet masks, hose layouts, and interfaces. Even something "simple" like fitting the straps just tight enough is made easier if you have all the overnight leak data the next morning.
My hard drive crashed and I had to do a clean Windows install. I didn't bother reloading the CPAP software.
One of these days I'll put the reader and the software up for auction at CpapAuction.com, which I just discovered thanks to readers here.

Re: For Sale (?) Card Reader and Encore Pro
If you have the Pro legacy series, you have a card but no real data. However since you have data you probably have the Pro 2 legacy series. When Respironics went to the m series, they put out a Pro (not a Pro 2 or Pro 3).
The Pro m series has full data like the Pro 2 legacy (tank). They did not put out a Pro Bipap in the m series, just the bipap plus and the auto bipap. There was a Pro bipap as well as a Pro 2 bipap in the legacy series before there was the Auto bipap.
The software keeps 7 sessions. It will write at most 3 sessions a day. Wulfman is the expert on the time cut offs. You have to be less than an hour in a gap for there not to be a new session.
Version 1.5 came out for the Auto Bipap legacy series and with it came a newer SQL server requirement. 1.6 came out for the m series. 1.7 was not sold at least by cpap.com but was available in Europe. 1.8 came out for the m series aflex machine and for Vista.
After 1.8 came out, eventually Respironics succumbed to consumer demand and put out Encore Viewer. Encore viewer does not use an SQL database, it does not give a pdf report, and it will not allow you to change the prescription using the card like Encore Pro allows.
Derek, a forum member, wrote MyEncore to capture trends in data. That was not updated with newer versions of Encore (after 1.5 I don't think), so jskinner, also a forum member wrote Encore Pro Analyzer which provides reports like MyEncore had provided. I believe he recently has added a version which will handle the older versions of Encore Pro (I recall reading such a post but haven't looked it up).
I use EP 1.4 myself. I have MyEncore but rarely look at it.
Regarding the card reader, 2factors was a good and cheaper source for a long time but they haven't had any in stock for many months. Now there are a couple of US based places that will sell the card reader for in the $50's with shipping. There is a Hong Kong source also that bucko had posted about. There are of course other sources that are over $100.
I hope this helps clarify things.

Re: For Sale (?) Card Reader and Encore Pro
What is correct! The Remstar Pro in the non-Meries, collects NO useful data, however the Remstar Pro 2 in the non-Meries collects full data.dvejr wrote: My machine is the Remstar Pro with Cflex.

The data card stores 7 days, of useful data then overwrites, one day each day. Compliance data is longer, but useless.
It pays to keep using the software, as our treatment can change at any time, the software will keep us aware of any changes. Jim
Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!

Re: For Sale (?) Card Reader and Encore Pro
Hey Jules, am I reading what you said right? (lack of sleep - making sure. lol)
I have a new laptop that has Vista on it. Does this mean I need a copy of EP v. 1.8 in order to get data off of my tank auto? Will 1.8 work with my old tank?
I may just be forced to keep the old laptop just to read my data every three or four months. lol
