Re: OT: How to shower like a man or woman
Apparently, despite considerable evidence, I'm not a man. I should work on that.

Re: What about thunderstorms?
I don't agree with everything weston is saying, particularly the dollar per appliance price tag for whole house protection (unless you happen to have 400 to 900 appliances, which is the going rate in my area) but see no reason whatsoever to label him (or her) a troll. This poster seems genuinely int...

Re: Article:Brain Can Learn to Overcome Sleep Apnea
The implications are interesting. If this research is correct, apnea provides its own cure. So evidently most of us are cured by now and can dispense with our unneeded machines. Anyone buying this idea? I just wanted to add that for those few of us who didn't suffer from a long period of XPAP-less O...

Re: Resmed S9 Stops Flow
Sandy, I'm confused by your post. The S9 unit itself neither opens nor snaps together. Are you talking about the humidifier, which rests to the right of the XPAP, hinges in the back and snaps in the front? Or might you be talking about your mask, which is an element distinct from the S9?

Re: Fact or False Belief?
LoQ, I believe that all your conclusions are pretty much on the money with the caviat that there's enough variation in humans for people to react to xpap therapy in very different ways. In my case, I can often tell, even in a shallow sleep, that air escaping from my mouth has nothing to do with a ne...

It is ambiguous, but I think Resmed's definition of "fully assembled" would include the short feeder hose.

Re: Sleep Doc no longer a Fan of APAP
The problem I find with running APAP with an open upper range is an increase in centrals. I do best by limiting the range on both ends.

Re: Squishing the belly increases AHI
Interesting, S_C, but I'm not sure that an external cuff duplicates the kind of abdominal pressure exerted by excess visceral fat. It makes intuitive sense to me that a cuff might constrict intercostal, rib, and diaphram freedom in a way that visceral fat wouldn't, which might present a confound to ...

Re: Does your AHI make a difference in how you feel ?
With the S9, anything over 3 tends to leave me groggy all day even after eight hours sleep. I can closely predict the AHI readout by how I feel in the morning.

Re: Can pressure increase cause more obstructive apneas?
Aside from Julie's sensible observation, it makes intuitive sense to me that even without leaks, at some point of increasing pressure beyond the ideal, excess pressure might invoke protective responses from your body that a machine could interpret as obstructive events. These home devices assess bre...

Seems you could simply put a finger between your lips and squeeze with identical results. As to the claimed pantheon of results, I'm a trifle sceptical, particularly concerning the mental aspects.

Re: Could it be that I dont need my apap?
Certainly possible and the way you feel is a strong indicator although not conclusive, particularly for multiple nights. I'd say BlackSpinner's suggestion is excellent, and I wonder why you had a sleep study at all if you sleep so well in that position. Perhaps you've lost considerable weight in the...
