Mask Recommendations.

Post by Guest » Sat Jul 16, 2005 5:33 pm

I am new to this board. I have been using my Remstar plus for a little over a year and the mask is on its last leg. I was wondering what mask you folks prefer? I was thinking about replacing my comfort select with a comfort gel? Any recommendations from you folks would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Jon

Hi Jon,

Welcome to the message board!

Gosh, if the mask you've been using suited you fine for a year, I'd probably stick with that same model.

But if you're in the mood for a change, I'd give the ResMed Swift or the ResMed Activa a try.

I feel the same way, what ever is working now, I would not change it.

I found mine and now I am not changing ever again.

I also agree with the others, if it ain't broke don't try and fix it!

Having said that, if you really want to try something new, I also agree with Rested Gal's suggestions. I use the swift and love the freedom it gives, it is a nasal pillow mask that sits under the nose and just lightly in the nostrils. Having said all this, I think the pressure you have may affect your choice of mask, the swift is ok at lowish pressures but can be a bit noisy if the pressures get a bit high. You could also look at the aura or the breeze. I haven't tried either, but my sleep tech says the breeze is very good as is the comfort gel.

My vote is also for the Swift and Activa if you are looking for a change. I absolutely love the Swift and use it almost exclusively now. It is so light weight and easy to clean. My pressure is 9. I tried the Aura, even with RG's modifications, but it just would not work for me.

Thanks for the kind welcome and recommendations! I really appreciate all the info! I have had pretty good luck with the mask I have now but I think im going to try the gel model as its only a few dollars more and seems to have pretty good ratings. I found it online for 70 dollars which seems to be a great price. Any recommendations for where to get the best deals on masks and other cpap equipt.? My machine pictured at the bottom of my post is set to 10 for pressure if that helps with recommendations for more masks.

Thanks again
Jon

I'm not familiar with your current mask, but I have tried the Comfort Gel mask. I found it to be quite heavy on the face. The gel also did not seem to be as soft as I thought it should be.

Hope the Comfort Gel works for you. Seems I've seen a lot of message board posters report it starting out ok for a few nights, then getting leakier and leakier, despite reforming it in boiling water. Seen a lot of reports of it causing sore bridge of the nose, too, but maybe that was a result of over-tightening the straps to try to stop the leaks.

Each person's face is different, so might work perfectly for you. Only way to know is try.

cpap.com, one of this board's sponsors, is selling the Comfort Gel for $62.99.
