I'm looking at different options for a full face mask, and I measured myself for a Fisher & Paykel HC 432. According to my numbers, I need to order a small. That sort of surprised me, although I do have a long and narrow face. I'm wondering how well online size charts are. Do you normally start with what they say (in my case, small), or have you learned through trial and error to adjust up one size?
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Question re. Mask Sizing
Hi Mike,
I haven't found a pattern to the sizing when the mask doesn't fit (too small or too large). I did try doing all the measurements more than once and noticed that it's easy to be off a little. I've experimented with the recommendations to see how much difference it takes in one measurement to change the mask from "not recommended" to "recommended" and it can be a tiny difference.
So, imho, the biggest problem with the mask sizing tool is that it's difficult to get accurate enough measurements. My philosophy is that if it's a really expensive mask, I'll think pretty carefully before trying. If it's under $100, I may just try it. Other options: cpapauction.com, enter cpap.com product challenges, swap with a friend, etc.
There's more than size involved in a comfortable fit.
Good luck!
Mindy

Re: Question re. Mask Sizing
Looking at your pic you are not a small!! I would bypass the 432 and get the Forma. It fits better than the 432.

Yeah, that's sort of what I was thinking.cpapqueen1 wrote:Looking at your pic you are not a small!!

Re: Question re. Mask Sizing
You might be a small - the area from the bridge of your nose to just under your mouth is not particularly large at all even if you have a broad face (as I do - and I wear a small). I do know the chart is not that great as it did tell me that a mask I've used wasn't compatible (it is), but it's probably right as often as it's wrong.

Re: Question re. Mask Sizing
Thanks for your thoughts. I have someone from my DME coming out on Tuesday to fit me and let me try different full-face masks. He's bringing a Mirage Quatrro, an Ultra Mirage, and a F&P HC431 - those are the ones they have. I'm looking forward to using a ffm - my compliance is horrible due to my sinus issues.
Merry Christmas!
