Call me Rudolph

Post by kopoloff » Tue Dec 02, 2008 10:09 pm

My nose nose is red. Very very red, only on the inside. Guess it's the season for it.

I've been using the hose for 6 weeks now, the last two on APAP after I found out how to get into the machine settings. What a revelation. Getting AI's of zero, or 0.1, with a few hypo's in there,so AHI's of 1.2, 1.4 etc. I'm very happy with this, but I've been getting a sore nose. Its red raw just inside my nostrils. I've been using the humidifier, turned up as high as I can without getting drenched by a tropical downpour.

Can anyone suggest what's happening here (it hurts!!!)

Thanks

K

Sounds like the nasal pillows of your mask are irritating your poor nostrils. Perhaps try any one of these things...a little dab just barely inside the nostrils:

Lansinoh -- used by breast feeding moms, probably would be in the nursing supplies of a pharmacy.
Ayr gel -- in the nasal sprays section.
Neosporin -- in the antibiotic creams section.

You might also try the next larger size of nasal pillows for your mask. Sometimes using a larger size keeps more of the pillows toward the outside rather than the inside of the nostrils. Slightly larger than you need often seals better too... more on the outside rim.

If nothing you try gives relief, don't necessarily rule out the idea of nasal pillows types masks in general. It might be that a different brand of nasal pillows mask would not do that to you, since each manufacturer's nasal pillow and headgear are quite different from each other.

Good luck!

Thankyou rested gal.

I'm using the largest size pillows. Last night I tried the medium size, just to see how I'd go. Result - probably worse, which supports you theory of using the larger ones.

I've been using a moisturiser, which is good for ensuring a good seal, but it hasn't helped the soreness. I'll take your advice and try the products you've suggested. I need to find out what brand they are marketed under here in Oz

Thanks

Rudolph

I found it very helpful to use a good hand lotion with aloe (like Aveeno), frequently applied around the outer sore nostril edges during the day--Ayr on the insides of my nostrils. Worked very quickly!

You guys (non gender specific use of the word) are great.

I went to the local pharmacy last night. Got some Lansinoh. Pharmacist thought I was mad when I said it was going up my nose.

Anyway,I tried it last night. Magic, so much better. I'll goback to the pharmacist and tell him Lansinoh is fantastic to stick up my nose!

Thanks

You can thank Gerald, who is the first person I recall mentioning Lansinoh.

Don't get tooooo happy yet. We didn't tell you what the side effect there might be to the tip of your nose, after prolonged use of that product.

Could actually be quite a feature when travelling
