Can we hack the BiPap?

Post by masked_insomniac » Sun Nov 23, 2008 1:01 pm

Hello there helpful folks. I am in need of your help, yet again.

I have been through a slough of BiPap machines in the past few years, as well as a number of titration changes. Unfortunately, I am temporarily without insurance and using an old BiPap Pro2 machine with a different pressure setting than I should be using. Worse yet, I am without a technician to guide me in resetting my pressure levels to where they should be. This has yielded unrestful sleep, and an equally unhappy fiancee (I keep ripping the mask off because I can't breathe).

For those of you who are professionals, I am not trying to do your job! I'm not a big fan of Doctors, but I owe my life to the techs that have helped me over the years. I am just in a rough spot now, and need to maintain my health, sanity, and relationship without the aid of insurance.

Again- It's a Respironics BiPapPro2 ...

Please Help Me!

I don't think there's any Bi-PAP setup instructions at that site.

However, if you use the basic instructions for the old Legacy machines, it's not hard to get into them.
Be sure to write down all of the options and settings before making any changes.

Try these:

When in the Setup Menu, the humidifier ^ and ramp v buttons operate as up and down keys to change the settings, the left/right user buttons < > allow you to go to the previous/next question or setting, and the pressure start/stop button is used to exit the Setup Menu. Holding the humidifier or ramp buttons down will cause the values to change more quickly.

To enter the Therapy Setup Menu, hold the two top user buttons < > down while plugging in the power cord.
Continue holding the buttons down until the REMstar Pro 2 with C-Flex beeps twice.

Note: The word "setup" will appear on all of the screens indicating that you are in the Therapy Setup Menu.
If you press the Pressure start/stop button, you will exit the Setup Menu.
(5) REMstar Autos w/C-Flex & (6) REMstar Pro 2 CPAPs w/C-Flex - Pressure Setting = 14 cm.

My mistake.
I see they now post this -
Note: As of 3/25/2008 Respironics has indicated their displeasure with us posting their "private and copyrighted for clinician-use only information". As a result we've removed the manuals from this article.

Tho they do still have how to enter the setup menu. Same as above.
Guess it's been awhile since I actually looked.

But they do still have the manuals for -
S8 Compact

S8 Escape

GoodKnight 420G

Mea Culpa

Hats off to Wulfman

Her's a link to Bipap pro instructions. It's a bit hard to read, but you can give it a shot.

masked_insomniac, please PM me your email address. I don't have a Provider manual for the specific machine you are asking about, but the provider manual I have for my pre-M BiPAP Auto should be similar enough to help you. It contains settings instructions for using it in just bipap mode, which makes it operate exactly like your BiPAP Pro 2 does.

For the Respironix REMStarrrr A-Flexxxx the hack is:

1. On opening screen select "Setup"
2. Hold down both buttons for 10 seconds

The machine will beep and you'll be into the operators menus.

Good luck

I know this is an old thread, but if anyone finds this, know that the "Setup" menu thing works, but depending on your machine, might only require holding down the knob for 10 seconds.
