Hi -

I'm from Ontario. I don't have any idea about importing regulations (yet) but in case you didn't know it, Health Canada will contribute a fair amount towards the cost of the equiptment. In Ontario, it's $780.00 Cdn. I'm looking forward to hearing from others.

If you order from CPAP.COM, make sure they list the shipment as medical supplies. I cannot remember the exact Canadian Duty Code that should be clearly posted on the shipping box too. I think it is 57 for medical, which exempts the shipment from any duty or GST. Becky, in shipping at CPAP.COM might know the code. When I ordered from CPAP.COM, I had my order shipped to a relative in the U.S.(no charge by CPAP.COM). I then had them use the U.S. Post Office for shipping to my address here in Canada to avoid the UPS or FEDEX custom broker fee. I am not sure if this step was necessary. I have had to pay the custom brokerage fees on UPS and FEDEX on other things, so I did it this way to avoid them. You will need to either fax or use CPAP.COM's email scan for your doctor's prescription.

I've had several things shipped in from different suppliers in the USA. All have come through US Mail / Canada Post and none have had any fees/duties attached. All items have shown "medical equipment" on the import lable.

Shipping charges are another thing all together. I have found sites that will ship for dramatically less money than others.

I've also learned alot about the contribution that Ontario's Assistive Devices Program will make and how the Ontario equipment supplies are unlikely to give you all of the details. For example, as of late September 2004, ADP will pay for AutoPap as easily as they will pay for CPAP AND, the amounts that they will pay are the same for both as is the price cap that they put on what the supplier can charge. The suppliers will not want to tell you this because they don't make as much profit from selling you the AutoPAP as they do from the CPAP. So, if you are wanting AutoPAP, get your Dr. to write the script stating AutoPAP and showing a pressure range. The equipment supplier will tell you that ADP does not cover AutoPAP, stamp your feet and don't take "no" for an answer.

Send me a private message if you want more info.
