What's Better ? (AI & HI)

Post by luke » Mon Nov 17, 2008 10:38 am

I am in the process of fine-tuning my pressure in CPAP mode by moving my pressure in .5 increments.
I am looking for the best definition of what I am shooting for:

1. Best HI
2. Best AI
3. Best AHI

In other words if I have an HI of .5 and an AI of 3 (=3.5AHI)
is that better than if I had an HI of 1.5 and an AI of 2 ?

Which of the numbers is more important or doesn't it matter ?

Thanks........Luke

When it comes to AHI, work on getting the AI the lowest first, the HI just comes along for the ride! On Resmed machine, the HI rides High and dry, compaired to other brands. Jim

I agree with Goofproof, Luke. But I think high AHIs in my reports aren't solely due to pressure that's not quite right.

For me, I'm also finding that there are other factors besides the pressure that lead to higher AHI (or AI or HI). For instance, how much coffee have I had to drink, and when was the last cup? What about alcohol? And congestion--should I use my neti pot?

So I'm trying to fine-tune my habits and leaving the pressure at my latest adjustment, which, like yours, is just 0.5 cm higher than my prescription.

There are other factors, too; and what's a factor for one person may not be for another. It's interesting to think how one thing in our lives affects other things--especially our sleep.

Hope this helps.
