Early Morning Wake Up

Post by bkrabach » Mon Nov 17, 2008 6:45 am

I've been using my CPAP for about 9 months now and generally feel much better for it. For the first six months, I used to go to bed around midnight or 1am and get up around 9am, most nights sleeping through the night just fine.

In September, I had to change my sleep patterns to accommodate getting my son off to school. I now go to bed around 11pm and have to get up at 7:45am. What I find is that I typically wake up sometime between 4am and 6am and have difficulties falling back asleep. I might lay there for an hour, mind just wandering about or if I flip on some TV, within an hour I'm usually back out. When 7:45 rolls around, I find that I'm still tired and then throughout my day I feel the need for more sleep.

If I contrast that with the weekends where I get to sleep in, I've gotten use to the 11pm bed time so I stick with that, but I'll tend to go back to bed when I wake up early and then I don't get up until around 9am. If I do this, I feel good all day, can be as laid back or as energetic as I want without feeling like I need a nap, etc.

Any ideas how to deal with this early morning wake up? Any thoughts on how to feel fully rested by 7:45 am? I thought about trying to go to bed earlier, but I then have problems trying to fall asleep or I wake up even earlier.

If it helps, I've got my CPAP running at a level of 10 with an AHI average of 0.8.

Thanks,
Brian

WOW!! I could have written that same post. I've been having the same problem with the same senario!! I feel like I'm really dragging during the week but on Sat. when I can sleep til about 7-7:30 a.m. instead of waking up at 4:45 a.m. and not being able to fall back to sleep I feel pretty good. Wish I had some solutions too!!!
