APAP Study Mask Selection

Post by mullinsnc » Fri Nov 07, 2008 7:33 pm

I am doing a 7 day study with an APAP machine. Is it true that the machine is set according to which mask you are using. I am now on my 4th night and was thinking about switching to a different mask just to see if it makes a difference.

It depends on which brand of machine you are using. Resmeds need to be set to the correct mask in order to report a somewhat accurate leak rate. I don't believe the others do, as leak calculations are up to you.

Yup what RiverDave said. Assuming you are using a Resmed xPAP, the Mask Selection should be for the Resmed mask you are using or if you are using other than a Resmed mask the Mask Selection should be set to Standard. In Standard selection the allowed vent rate is .4 L/s or 24 L/M and you have to do your own math to determine your true leak rate.

If you are using a Respironics or other brand xPAP don't worry about changing masks.
