A CPAP Mystery.

Post by fortomorrow » Thu Nov 06, 2008 7:05 am

I've always been somewhat stymied with my irregular habit of taking off all my clothes whilst sleeping. I wake up starkers but I never remember the actual disrobing. But it doesn't seem impossible.

Last night, however...

I went to bed wearing a brown robe/nightgown thing that zips up the front and makes me resemble a monk. And I woke up without it. And I still had my mask and my tape on.

What I can't figure out is how it ended up on the floor, still zipped all the way up. This suggests that I had to have taken it off over my head - which is impossible because of the mask and hose.

No wonder I periodically wake up with pulled muscles in my back.

(I was very worried I was going to do this during my PSG and therefore wore very complicated pyjamas. )

Are you sure a handsome masked stranger does not sneak in every night and...?

I'm envious too ... do you ever have strangers come by for brief sleep overs?

My guess is you took off you mask then your robe and put your mask back on ... or you unzipped your robe and then zipped it back up.

we need VIDEO or it didn't happen!

I would research parasomnia such as sleep walking.

Hey don't feel bad, I have woken up before just freezing my butt off, all the blankets including the top sheet where GONE from my bed when I woke up, I'm reaching all around trying to find them as it was freezing. I get up and they are gone from the bedroom! Great! where are they? I got to go to the bathroom then look for them, as I enter the bathroom I see them all piled up on the toilet. Oh there they are!!

Leonbergergirl: Don't I just wish.

DreamStalker: I haven't had anyone come over for brief sleepovers in at least 7 years.

The leak line doesn't show that I took the mask off at any point. And I seriously doubt my ability to re-zip the robe after taking off *in my sleep*.

It's the weirdest thing. Perhaps I am the reincarnation of Houdini.

Snoredog: You wouldn't want to see video of it, trust me.

I've never sleepwalked before. Also, my leak line doesn't show I ever took the mask off.

Do *you* sleepwalk though? With all your bedclothes?

Do you have a copy of your last PSG? I would read it carefully, maybe it may mention some things on it.

Stress and fatigue can contribute to it. Basically you are acting out on your dreams. My youngest daughter has it,
I've been up late before watching she comes in the family room sits down on the sofa watches TV, she may even go get a bowl of cereal and I'd ask her about it the next day and she never knew she did it.

If you haven't been on therapy very long it may eventually go away as you restore your sleep.

Do you take any sleep aides? Could you have taken it off before hosing up?
A little teaser eh?

ps. I'm Going for another PSG tonite, what shall I wear? Well besides wires?

Oh, I've had overnight visitors in the past 7 years. Just not of the brief sort. One night stands (or sometimes stands of a few hours) lose their charm after a certain point.

Snoredog: I don't have the full report and graphs, only the summary (I'm going to ask for it when I go see my neurologist in December). The summary didn't mention anything out of the ordinary.

Stress and fatigue sound about right, especially after the past few days. I've been taking my mask off after about 3 hours and turning the machine off (which is frustrating, as I've been so good for about 3 weeks) because something on my face hurts or the tape has come off or I'm having a ton of rainout. My sleep has been crap since then. Last night was the first time in several days that I slept through the whole night without waking up or taking my mask off.

Gumby: No sleep aides last night, the most I ever take is Benadryl, and it's been a while since I've taken it. I very plainly remember hosing up and going to bed fully clothed. It was cold, and I wrapped another blanket around my shoulders because the robe wasn't enough.

And that all depends on what your sleep tech looks like. Mine was a really cute young man named Jay. Perhaps I shouldn't have worn the complicated pyjamas after all.

actually any sleep walking would occur before REM sleep so you are not really acting out on your dreams, the parasomnia is called somnambulism or noctambulism,

I'd put a paddle-lock on that robe, you don't want to end up like this gal

I'm thinking the only option is to get a web camera and hook it up to your PC, or laptop if you have one. You'll need to keep a night light on too. Then just record every night until you find out what's going on.

Could you have unzipped halfway, enough to get out of it, then because you're naturally neat, rezipped it before putting it down? I mean if people can go all the way down to the kitchen and get stuff out of the fridge, make it up and eat it, why can't you rezip something?
