Last time you've seen any sleep professional? (poll)
Re: Last time you've seen any sleep professional? (poll)
Let's see if I can beat the whiners to it: "What??? There are professionals in sleep medicine???"
I am not a medical professional and I have no medical training.
Re: Last time you've seen any sleep professional? (poll)
I saw my sleep NP last week for my insurance compliance visit. Next appointment is in one year. The RT at my DME actually wants to check my data again in 3 months. I showed her my SleepyHead printouts and she suggested that I take them to the next AWAKE meeting in our town and show people how to follow their own data. I was surprised but as I talk to people who are on Cpap, most show no interest in seeing their data. I may give it a try though.

See! There we go again. "Most patients have no interest in data."teknomom wrote: I was surprised but as I talk to people who are on Cpap, most show no interest in seeing their data.
Indeed most patients do not have an interest in data. This is the reason that DMEs typically supply only "bricks". It is ridiculous to campaign for the more expense machines when most of the market has no interest.
Many of you in this forum are out of touch with reality.

This can be said of people with diabetes too, that doesn't make it right or end up saving money for health care. Most smokers were not interested in hearing about the health consequences either. Most people have no interest in eating right, using condoms, having safe sex or driving defensively. That doesn't mean we should stop trying to persuade them it is in their best interest to do so.Therapist wrote:See! There we go again. I've seen my sleep specialist twice in two months. A vast majority of people on CPAP that I talk with have no interest whatsoever to learn more about their disease, their machines or their data.
Re: Last time you've seen any sleep professional? (poll)
maybe true over the water but here we are NOT allowed to see our data, I even took my hospital to the Houses of Parliment to fight for my right to check my settings and data on my machine and still they wont help. You should count yourselves very lucky to be allowed just to download your data and browse over it, I would give a week off my mask for the privalige.sandman19 wrote:I've seen my sleep specialist twice in two months. What can they do to you if you download sleepyhead and use it....no one is the wiser unless you tell them. What goes on in someones bedroom is their business ..no one elses.

Actually, the person who is looking at their data is, in fact, by definition, in-touch with reality.Therapist wrote:Many of you in this forum are out of touch with reality.

People who have no interest in their data are like dieters who do not weigh themselves.

My pulmonologist was happy to hand over my therapy to me when I indicated I had researched it and was looking at my data and understood it. As long as I keep my AHI down where it belongs I don't have to be monitored like a little kid.
As an fully functional adult who used to program her VCR to record programs I am quite capable of looking at those numbers and making an intelligent decision based on it.

As a 10 year user of cpap equipment, I have never been given access to the numbers nor offered any explanation of them by my equipment suppliers.
It didn't take too long to figure out that unless I had major problems and banged on the suppliers' door, I was on my own. They were mostly selling equipment, and the therapists way over the top on their caseload. Like any other business trimming their personnel to produce a larger profit.
Fancy that - responsible for my own therapy! So I went online, found out how to access the information, and am still learning.
However my doctor does see me annually and monitor my numbers, and I am very pleased with that.

You might not be able to download your data, but your S8 Autoset machine will give you data on your screen. You can track AI..HI...AHI...and Leak data by day, week, and month.

Thanks for kicking me when Im down with my mask on guys ...and gals (where are my manners )
I want to be heard and I wanted the proffessors to take my argument seriously. After several complaints and hints of losing my equipment I was told to back down. I was even summond to the hospital by the top man for a butting of heads as to why Im not qualified to LOOK at the data let alone access it and you will like this bit "ALL FORUMS SHOULD BE CLOSED AS THE INFORMATION THEY GIVE COULD KILL SOMEONE!" The brickwall was up. Now when I visit I throw it in their faces with questions about all my data and use the freedom of data act and request copies of everything. Childish, maybe. Stubborn, yes! but what gives them the right to keep me in the dark about my treatment.
Hypothetical: A man who was on cpap was killed today while driving after falling asleep at the wheel, he was never informed about his leaking mask and low preasure settings that wasnt catching his apneas.
NOW tell me it isnt important to check my data. Would you go out driving with your family in the car not knowing after 20 minutes you could nod off.
(DAM this curries hot) Need to cool down, hen wheres my bucket of water.....................................................
