Bidding in cpap auction????

Post by chimom » Sun Nov 02, 2008 8:00 pm

I have not tried to bid on a lot of things but i am confused about something.
I was bidding on a mask on cpap auction i was waiting until the last few minutes, i placed 3 bids and each time it said "you have been out bid"
i did these bids back to back and i am thinking how is this happening? I gave up after i tried 3 times and then the other person got it with a bid placed yesterday! Is there a way people place a bid that locks other people out? The thing is i didn't see the other bid until i gave up and then when i looked at it again the other person had bid YESTERDAY how does that work i am confused????

They must have proxy bidding available.

Say the going bid is $5, but you're willing to pay $10. You'd enter $10 and then the bid would go to $6. If anyone bid more than $6 but less than $10, you would still have the winning bid.

That's what was happening to you. It's nice to be able to enter you're highest bid and then wait it out, instead of having to be online when the auction ends.

Ed's got it. Cpap auction bidding is very much like ebay.

From what I understand on cpapauction.com you enter the highest bid that you want to pay. So when you bid on something yesterday the person who outbid you put a higher max than what you put as your bid. They system will automatically increase that persons bid by 50 cents until the max is reached on what they wanted to pay. No matter how many times you bid if your bid is still lower than there max it will increase by 50 cents. Hope that sounds right..

I guess what confused me was it said last bid was 21.00, i entered 21.50 it said you were out bid then i did it two more time and both times it said your were out bid, but the only bid that it showed was the 21.00. So how could i meet the bid if i didn't know what i was bidding against. it didn't show the bid that won until the end. It seem a little unfair if you cant see what you are bidding against. this has happened to me 2 times now. I makes me wonder if i will bother to bid again. what is the point if i cant see the maxium that has been bid that i am bidding against.......

The system will tell you that you were outbid and will show you an amount just $.5 more than your last bid (if there is max set by the other bidder that is higher than your bid). I have seen this myself several times in cpapauction. I am not sure why you have seen it differently.
