Mask Help

Post by Jcochran » Sun Nov 02, 2008 9:30 am

OK. So I started out with a nasal pillow mask and headgear. I'm a severe mouth breather and my DME/Doctor gave me a quattro ffm to try. Really like the mask. Good seal, comfortable, but it kills the bridge of nose. I have the top straps loose and the adjustment on top all the way out. I believe I tried a larger size at the doc and it didn't seal good. The then set me up with a liberty hybid. I like this mask ok, but it doesn't seem to provide the same amount of air as the quattro and seems to have leak issues near the exhaust at times. I don't know where to go now. My doctor/DME says they are out of options, I believe they only distribute ResMed masks. What tips or advice can be given. I can't get my machine dialed in and pressure figured out without getting this mask under control.

I'm not sure if you have already done this...

Remove the face cushion along with the face cushion frame (green part) from the mask itself. Then try fitting that up against your face to give yourself some idea of how it is fitting... you may need more depth in the nose bridge area... you may be able to see what by fitting only that part against your face.

As well, go to CPAP.COM and use their fitting guide. For that you need to take various measurements around your face... based on the measurements the fitting guide will give you an idea of which masks & sizes should work. At least that would be a starting point with your search.

Have you tried the Ultra Mirage FF? It's actually my favorite.

I actually have a crease across the bridge of my nose in the morning. It is sore to touch for 2-3 days. Hope this helps. Thanks for the input

Perhaps a soft piece of silicone could be placed there to soften the edge against your skin? http://www.macksearplugs.com/product2.htm

You can always try the Hybrid - pjwalman is running the Hybrid test drive- check out the link or PM her for more info.

You might want to check that the elbow clip on the Liberty isn't broken - it's known to be very fragile. The vent (exhuast) is located on the mask frame itself, so I don't think you should be getting any leaks from the elbow, and I don't see how you can have leak issues on the mask frame itself. Actually you might want to check that the mouth cushion is placed securely on the mask frame.
