Resmed Autoset Vantage for $250

Post by eutychus » Sat Nov 01, 2008 7:08 pm

I hope this is okay to do - if not, Mods, go ahead and remove this post and whip me with a 6 ft. cpap hose.

I was checking out craigslist.com in my area and came across a Resmed Autoset Vantage for $250. You can check it out here: http://centralmich.craigslist.org/for/892230598.html. If I wasn't so poor I'd consider it as a backup.

Mike

Hi there Mike.. I am doing the same thing as you.. Am poor and don't want to throw money that I really don't have out on something that is not worth it. But you might consider this as well.. If you have a prescription you can send it to this group Awake in America and with other information they ask of you, if you qualify, they will send you a FREE machine and mask! Worth a try..

You said "...don't want to throw money that I really don't have out on something that is not worth it...."

You never throw money away if it is for your health....

I would never presume to tell you what to do.

I'm not so rich myself, but I noticed (when I went to the awake site) that there is a $50 charge up front (for administrative purposes).

Then, there are no guarantees. No fixes, no warranties, and you don't know where its been.

Just like buying a used car - let the buyer beware.

I know Awake is a great organization, however...

That form you have to fill out - My Goodness; You have to give them way tooo much information.

(I didn't know a third that much about my wife before I married her)

IMHO, if you let us keep trying, we'll find a good deal for ya. if you want us to). I didn't mean to be too nosy.

It is a charity and meant for use by those who don't have the means to get a machine or sleep study any other way.

It isn't designed for those who say they can come up with 25 % of the cost of a machine at cpap.com only if the DME will issue the machine they want.

If someone wants to play that game, I suggest they seek legal advice about what it means to commit fraud and the penalties involved.

Jay what I am speaking of there is the product itself and not our health. If the product is broken, missing parts, defective.. Even $75.00 right now is alot for me to throw away if a used machine does not work.

Awake in America has a spot on the form that they will consider waving the $50.00 fee for the machine. They do require a $30.00 application fee but they only require you to pay it if your accepted into the program.

Well, Mike, if it were me I would ask the total hours on that Vantage and the serial number. And I would make the drive to see the Vantage to check the serial number and total hours myself. I'd turn it on and run it. If all seemed okay I would GRAB it for $250 and consider that Vantage a "steal" at that price and be happier than a pig in a pile of dung that I'd found it!!

Thanks, Gumby. Am on a bit of a downer for the time being. No car. *sigh* Hit a fresh deer carcass on I-94 coming home. So my car is sitting at a GM dealer's in Paw Paw, MI and I'm sitting home w/no car. Hopefully, its just a matter of transmission and/or transmission cooler but ..... will my little ole car be the same or as good as she was before we tangled w/that deer carcass???

Its always good to hear from you, Slinky. I'm happy you're o.k.
We had a couple of incidents around here where some have been injured by the antlers going through the windshield.

I had a baby to hit the side of my car a couple of years ago. It came out of nowhere. We drove it about 40 miles to the Va. Tech veterinarian center and tried to save its life. They called a couple of days later and told us it had died. Spent $700 to have body work done on my car.

Of course, I've been wanting to come up there and ride those horses with ya. Maybe we could do that a few days until they fix it. I just wanted to ride with you to keep you out of trouble.

Bye,
Jay

Other considerations:
1- Check the SN against the recall list: http://www.resmed.com/en-us/s8program/a ... h/faq.html If the machine is part of the recall, you can likely get a brand new machine (potentially even the newest S8 II Auto) free from ResMed through SteriCycle.
2- The machine as offered has the advantage that it is compatible with any of the ResMed software, from AutoScan through any version of ResScan.
3- Downside: no exhale relief in auto mode.
