Re: Newbie Taping Mouth Shut

Hi Tom513, I found that when I just used tape, moisture condensed under the tape which either loosened it or gave me a rash around my mouth. I did some research on this site and found that others have been successful using polygrip strips between their lips to gently seal them from moisture, either ...

Re: Poll: Should OT posts be banned from cpaptalk.com?

I think as long as we are polite and label OT posts as such, I'm good to go. I can choose to read them or not.

Re: CPAP Machine into Surgery?

Hi Slinky, Good to see that seminar! My understanding has always been that our CPAP would be wise and/or necessary in recovery, NOT during the surgery itself when you are constantly monitored by either anesthesiologist or CRNA (certified registered nurse anesthetist). That's why I'm concerned, the p...

Re: CPAP Machine into Surgery?

Thanks all, those were very helpful answers. I think as I consider this "twilight sleep surgery" I'll ask my sleep doc if he knows of an anesthesiologist who is familiar with sleep apnea (last time I asked he did not , but that was a year ago).

Cheers,

Happy Sleeper

CPAP Machine into Surgery?

Hi all, I have plantar fasciitis, and the podiatrist has suggested that I have a topaz procedure under Versed "twilight sleep" in the OR to help the foot. It would involve making me sleep, without intubation (tube down throat) for about 45 minutes, a nurse would "watch me", similar to what's done wi...

Re: Chapped/Hurting Upper Lip

I agree, it sounds like another mask would fit you better. Most insurances will allow a mask exchange within 30 days. Here's another idea: cut a piece of a hydrocolloid bandaid and put it on your lip before putting your mask on. The septum between my nares was raw last week, and I put a small piece ...

Re: optilie

I use the Optilife nasal pillows and I'm comfortable, with these fixes: I only use the medium nasal pillows, not the cradle, and I have pad a cheek strap pads which I put on the hard plastic chip strap supports. I started with the cradle, but I had to lie absolutely still (which of course doesn't ha...

Re: Newbie would like to hear success stories, please.

Gradual But Sure Success: I've been on CPAP now for about 19 months and I'm doing well. BEGINNING: Initially took quite a bit of tweaking to get comfortable. When I first start CPAP therapy I was desperately exhausted, sleeping 10-12 hours/day, afraid that I would fall asleep at the wheel and having...

Re: sleeping on the right pillow

I use a cervical neck support pillow, since I have neck spurs and must sleep mostly on my back or I get pain and tingling in my arms. My pillow is the one with a concave middle for my head, and two different size neck rolls for choosing to sleep under my neck. I like the thick side under my neck whe...

Re: Does anybody send their SD card to DME?

I would not trust my data card in the mail...might loose it, and I want to keep collecting data every night, so I wouldn't want to part with it for the time it would take to mail it. But I do have to download the data with the DME company before I see my sleep doc--I think it's the way that the slee...

Re: Nasal mask & nasal pillows vs full face mask. Asphyxiation?

Hi Bright Choice, I don't think that you have the connection between EPR and rebreathing quite right: Usually with EPR people wind up rebreathing slightly more (if at all), because they are exhaling into a slightly lower airflow, which perhaps allows a little more exhaled air to stay in the tube. Wi...

Re: ease of taking on and off

Hi wifeisnaggingme, My mask is also quite easy to put on; it takes about 5 seconds. About 1 second to take off; the biggest time is reaching down to press the button on the machine. But it took me a few naps during the daytime, when I wasn't actually dog tired and so had patience, to play around wit...

Re: Taping Mouth Shut Question

Hi lucynethel1998, I also have a bit of claustrophobia, and couldn't solve the mouth leaking with chin strap, so I must tape. I had a sleep study to prove that it was mouth breathing through loose lips with the chin strap on that was causing my AHI to remain >10, and me to remain exhausted. SO, to h...

Re: how much distilled water a week do you all use?

With my S9 there is no way to open and scrub the humidifier tank, and I'm a little leary of growing germs/mold/algae in there. So I use about 6 oz distilled water a night (I have a distiller) and dump the water every morning, so about 42 oz per week. About 4x a week, when I have the time in the morn...
