OT: In My Next Life ....

Post by Slinky » Sat Oct 18, 2008 5:50 am

In my next life I'm gonna be a Bear!!!

In this life I am a woman. In my next life I'd like to come back as a bear. When you're a bear you get to hibernate. You do nothing but sleep for six months. I could deal with that.

Before you hibernate, you're supposed to eat yourself stupid. I could deal with that too!

When you're a girl bear, you birth your children (who are the size of walnuts) while you are sleeping and wake to partially grown, cute, cuddly cubs. I could definitely deal with that!

If you're a moma bear, everyone knows you mean business. You swat anyone who bothers your cubs. If your cubs get out of line, you swat them too. I could deal with that.

If you're a bear, your mate EXPECTS you to wake up growling. He EXPECTS that you will have hairy legs and excess body fat.

Yup, DEFINITELY gonna be a bear!

Well, Slinky, if modern medicine ever finds a very long acting pill for treating limb movements during sleep, that would sound good to me too. Otherwise, I wouldn't want to be the veterinarian at a zoo that had to dispense it nightly!

I like this idea, Slinky. Besides, my wife often calls me a "big bear."

One of my newer songs has a chorus about going where the black bear goes and sleeping deep. . . .

But she-bears always remind me of how the mean kids teased Elijah by calling him "Old Baldy" . . . and how he called a she-bear down from the hills to deal with those disrespectful brats.

Gotta watch out for them she-bears!

On the other hand, it wouldn't be such a bad thing to come back as a lichen on some inaccessible crag in the Appalachians. LIchens are cool. Lichens rock. Lichens are content. Lichens just are. . . . (And they'd never, ever need a BiPAP or an HMO.

When I saw this title, my first thought was that it was going to be a thread asking folks what they want to be in their next lives. While not particularly a believer in reincarnation, I've said for years that I'd want to be a well-loved house cat. Think about it: Plenty of sun spots for sleeping, plenty of great cat furniture, lots of toys, good food, free medical care, and NOBODY EXPECTS YOU TO COME WHEN YOU ARE CALLED!!
