eye goggles to prevent blurred vision in the morning?

Post by salazar » Fri Nov 14, 2014 2:24 pm

Hey everyone,

I've seen some posts here from other people complaining of blurred vision in the mornings.

I've been having blurred vision in my left eye, and I'm pretty sure it's because I sleep on my right side and air is leaking out of my mask during the night and blowing on my left eye. In the mornings, my left eye is often dry and painful, in addition to having blurred vision.

I've tried wearing my mask tighter, but this happens even when it's so tight that it leaves a welt at the top of my nose...

I was thinking maybe I could wear some kind of eye goggles.

I see this post viewtopic/t66372/Sleeping-eye-mask-anyone.html about eye goggles, but it seems to be about keeping the light out, and most of these are goggles that you would wear OVER your CPAP mask. But to keep the air from blowing in my eyes, I'd need something that goes UNDER my mask.

Any ideas? Maybe these? http://www.dryeyeshop.com/new-eyeseals-black-p546.aspx

Thanks!

I have been known to wear swim goggles, with a small vent hole cut into the outer upper side
so my eyes are not subjected to a partial vacuum.
Now, I use artificial tears, and sometimes eye lubricant drops, and i save my goggles for when I am cutting onions.
Incidentally, you could try "onion goggles", which are much less expensive than the item you reference.

You can no longer get it through Cpap.com, but they have their own website.

I wonder... I had a client who used a FFM with a thin fabric sleep mask inside it. You know the satin ones some women use for "beauty sleep?" I have no idea what his days looked like or how leaky his mask was, but it would be an inexpensive fix, and likely infinitely more comfortable than either goggles previously suggested...

RicaLynn - how do you know Oniyx is uncomfortable (except in obvious ones of satin vs goggles made to do the job)?

I tried the Quartz, clear version of the Onyix, and if it doesn't fit you, you're out of luck.
They chose to not make them adjustable--or even in a smaller size.
Pity, too, I really liked them. Luckily, the vendor took them back for credit on my next purchase.
--but they no longer sell them.

I don't - I didn't click the link. I've never used eye shields but I have used swim goggles, and I can't imagine anything rigid on/in my eyes for an entire eight hours would be comfortable at all. Again, just my $0.02

I'm a 6 week newbie so take this as coming from someone with limited knowledge and experience.

It would seem that rather than covering your eye, you should get a mask that is less prone to leaks.

I had airleak problems with the Airfit F10 that doesn't happen with the Amara. Maybe your face isn't shaped optimally for your mask and you need to find one that does. New mask....not new face.

I've been wearing these for years, and they work really well 99% of the time. (nothing is perfect)

http://www.amazon.com/TranquilEyes-Hydr ... es+goggles

Here's the trick I've found that works.

1. right before bed wet the inserts with warm water. Squeeze them pretty hard to get out the excess water, you just want them damp.

2. Put a small amount of eye lubricating ointment in your eyes.

3. In the morning I use saline contact solution to wash the ointment out of my eyes and I'm good to go.

As someone that has had serious cornea issues this is important to me and I do it EVERY night and it works.

I have a small nose, without much "padding".
As a consequence, nasal pillows are my only leak-free interface.
There seem to be no cushion masks that fit me without a stream of air in my eyes.

I do use a satin cloth eye mask. I feel that they are soft and thin enough to wear under the mask and haven't prevented a good seal for the mask itself. I'm not sure if this would work well if you have a large forehead piece on your mask and if that would interfere with it. I'm not getting air leaks into my eyes since I've tried this method.
