I just completed a split night sleep study. I never achieved REM sleep so they said it was difficult to determine severity of my apnea. I had 61 hypopneas with a SAT of 86%. They determined that my index is 23.What does this index represent?

Click on CPAPopedia (above) and read the entry for AHI, the first on the list. This is likely what they were talking about, and is a good explanation. I had a split study also, and never made it to rem sleep (prior to being put on the CPAP), but the tech didn't seem to have any problem determining my AHI was severe. SAT is your oxygen saturation level, the higher the % the better. Your AHI is moderate, but you still qualify for CPAP or they wouldn't have split the study and titrated your pressure level - yeah, I know, more jargon. Spend a little time reading this forum, you will learn a lot. Then go back and ask your doc whatever questions you're left with. Stick with it. If sleep apnea is your problem, CPAP therapy can give you your life back (or at least mostly).
Good luck and welcome to the forum, Jim
