Is Sedation the same as Sleeping?

Post by Guest » Tue Jun 07, 2005 6:15 pm

I have a dental procedure in the near future where I am supposed to be sedated (IV) for about an hour.

Have never thought much about it, until being diagnosed with OSA.

I'm wondering now, though, if while sedated the same apnea experienced may be experienced (hope not.)

Anyone else have to deal with something similar?

Most likely your apnea symptoms will be worse while sedated. Are you to remain conscious during the procedure? If not, I would bring your cpap along and notify the dentist ahead of time.

I am just curious as to how in the world one can wear a CPAP mask and get dental work done at the same time!

If I had known I would have lived this long, I would have taken better care of myself.

I could easily wear my aura interface and have dental work done. I guess it depends on the mask

The nasalaireII and breeze would work great also.

Yes you can use the aura. But you'll need to stuff a sock in your mouth to keep the air in. LOL. maybe they Make a special Dental Plug for use with cpap.

To state the unstated obvious... yes, it's true your apnea could be worse under sedation, but it's nuts to think you could hook up to cpap while having your dental work done.

Make sure your dentist knows your condition so they can do what they can while your sedated. Tell them ahead of time in case some special arrangements/precautions can be managed.

Chris, just ask the "mouth breathers" how they do it every night.
