High Pressure?

Post by rmmpres » Tue Jun 07, 2005 5:33 am

I started with my CPAP last week Wednesday. I have an F&P CPAP with ramp up feature and heated humidifier. I am using their FlexiFit full face mask. The doctor prescribed a pressure of 15. I slept great at the sleep study with a full face mask, although I don't know what mask they used on me. I am having a lot of trouble with the pressure and this mask. I am also swallowing air, as well as having trouble with leaks. I am calling my doctor today to discuss the pressure setting, as well as getting an automatic CPAP. I am also going to see about trying a nasal mask with a chin strap. I tried a nasal mask in my sleep study, but couldn't keep my mouth shut. If I need to stay at this pressure, then I will do my best to adjust to a nasal mask, as I've read on these forums they seal better with the higher pressure and I won't be swallowing all the air. Any tips are appreciated.

I can't give much advice, for I seem to do OK with the breathing through only nose. I do struggle with the high pressure, 18, so sometimes, often, my mask seems to be blasting off into outer space! (so much pressure) Tightening the mask seems to help. Don't know about mouth breathing. I've heard some here say that after awhile of using the straps, they adjust to not breathing through the mouth, and don't need the straps anymore. Don't know. But you never know. I'm sure others will have some hints.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things with your doctor.

Welcome, by the way!
