CareS preliminary report on Comfort Curve

Post by CareS » Sat Jun 04, 2005 7:32 am

Having read the negative reviews on the Comfort Curve, after I had ordered one from Cpap.com, I decided to return the item when it arrived. Yesterday the box in question arrived along with a request from the delivery man to pay the shipping costs which amounted to $30.68 which I paid. This is to Canada. Then the box sat on my sofa while I pondered in my mind that if I open it I have bought it. My curiosity got the better of me and I thought what if it works for me, different masks work for different people. I can sleep though an earthquake so if I can initially fall asleep watching TV then I am OK and sleep until about 4:00 a.m. My overall impression was the the CC unit was flimsy. The headstraps are 5/8th of an inch and the attaching clips didn't look like they would last too long. I settled on the medium nasal interface. I found the cheekpads a little too snug fitting but I have put on weight in the face lately with cooking for all my company. I wasn't bothered by the elbow vents but I could be when it is winter but at the moment a breeze is welcome. The hose is 3/4 the size of my Aptiva. I mistakenly thought I was supposed to attach that hose to the existing hose and I ended up sleeping with 10 ft of hose! Later I figured it was supposed to be attached to the cpap machine. I had problems unattaching the elbow joints which snap off, to clean them and I thought they might break. The seal I got was a 2 out of a possible six and my pressure is 8. The night gown clip attached to the Y hose I think is there to hold the mask in place. I guess you men out there will have to start wearing nightgowns..haha! I felt that the headgear and clips could be more substantial. I think that part of the problem with sealing is caused by the over-curvature. I folded some felt strips and placed them where the clip joins the headgear and it flaten the curve a bit and improved the seal..if that makes sense to you. For the Canadians out there your cost to order this from Cpap.com works out to $179.00 canadian funds plus $30.68 for shipping and delivery cost. I was able to watch TV and managed to sleep with it for five hours and woke up refreshed so I think for me it is too soon to tell. It will not be my main mask, just an occasional one. The Aptiva is the best. I will keep you posted and hope I have helped in some small way with your decision to purchase one.

Many of us have removed the oversized cheek pads and replaced them with mole skin. Makes the CC more comfortable in the opinion of some.

Hi CareS,

Thank you so much for the info. I too am from ON and intend to order from CPAP.com for a second mask and filters etc. Have had some reluctance to place the order due to the cross border shipping/charges/exchange and all as this is foreign to me (pardon the pun).

Just spoke to my brother-in-law from Dayton area who agreed to have my order shipped to him and will bring it to Saskatchewan for the centennial and our family reunion. Anything to save shipping charges.

Really appreciate input from this side of the border - thanks again!
