Re: Problems in Canada with Socialized Medicine?

Canadian here. And just wish to weigh in to make the Canadian system reflected more accurately. The National Health Act is a federal act that basically instituted universal health care, but each province has jurisdiction over its own health care system. Hence, citizens do not deal with the feds but ...

Re: CPap design flaws

To get back to the nasal pillows dislodging problem. Have you tried any specially designed head pillows? I had to get PAPillows because I tend to dig my nose downwards as I fall asleep and that kept disloding whatever mask I had on when I used regular pillows. To find out more about these pillows, j...

Re: Need reccomendation for mask similar to swift LT

I'll also cast a vote for the Opus 360. I've been using it for a year. My only problem with the pillows is that they seem to develop a whistle. All I can do is clean it and then put it away for awhile. I've been rotating three nasal pillows throughout the year. My only complaint about the Opus is th...

Re: Humidaire 3i - how often for refill/clean?

I only use distilled water and just top it up. I do a vinegar/water soak about once a month and then do a soap and wash. This seems to work fine. However, I was travelling in Egypt when I first started CPAP. I couldn't find distilled water there so I used bottled water for 5 weeks. My humidifier has...

Re: CPAP location changed everything

Hmmm...could the answer be in a reduction of pressure at face level because the air had to be pushed upwards for a period of time. This seems to makes sense at a an instinctual level, but may not be accurate in terms of physics. Anyone out there know the answer?

Sleeplessness and heart disease

Merry Christmas to all, and may ye sleep well over the holidays. As I was cruising around the Internet this snowy but bright morning, I found the following article in the New York Times. Not the most cheerful news for the holiday, but info we need to know about. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/24/hea...

Re: Hurrah!! The Bail Out Defeated 228 to 205

I'm with Country4fever. We live like no one in human history has ever been able to live, and we do it by using, squandering, and depleting more than our share of resources. Yet changing this requires sacrifices no one really wants to make. I'm very pessimistic. And, I've reached the point where I ca...

Re: all of a sudden my mouth is open!

Hi, I've never been a mouth breather but when I first started sleep apnea, I would find myself with my mouth open and the insides like flannel. My RT guy said that this could be a sign of air hunger...not getting enough through my nose so I switched to a different mask. However, I did find that occa...

Re: Help Getting New Machine

I don't know about an extra filter for allergies, but the new Resmed Elite 8 II has most of the features you want. I don't have the II but the Elite 8. I like it very much and use the EPR feature all the time. I can veiw my daily results on the machine face and get weekly and monthly averages...and ...

Re: Curse of a cold

No one yet has mentioned saline solution for nasal congestion so I'll butt in. I use a neti pot (google it if you don't know what this is) and some people here use the saline spray. It does really help with congestion and is not addicting in any way since it is just a mix of warm water and salts. I ...

Re: Canadian cpap.com users (Ontario OHIP)

Just a reminder here that if you have additional medical insurance through your employer, it may cover the 1/4 not paid by OHIP. While I agree that the prices are too high here (but isn't that the case with all electronic stuff), your supplier only earns what he/she can charge above the wholesale ra...

Re: Wife won't sleep with me

What an interesting discussion on marital relationships. My take after 42 years of marriage and friends with long-term marriages is that there is absolutely no guessing what goes on inside a relationship that isn't your own. So I don't speculate. However, I too have a mask that blows out cold air di...
