Mask Idea

Post by DCTom » Mon May 23, 2005 12:53 pm

Here's an idea for a mask. Maybe someone from Resperonics or elsewhere can make this happen. How about a mask that's all made of a soft balloon like material? No hard pastic whatsoever. It would blow up like a balloon or like pool toy. Sorta' like the pool toys kids use. So then when you rolled over on it, it would simply "give" a little but still stay in place and keep the pressure.

Or...how about a bed that had a dome on it. The entire bed would be pressurized! Now THAT would be awesome!

Seriously sometimes I think the people who make these masks aren't creative enough.

Mask Ideas ... All ideas are good

Innovative thoughts should never be shot down. Sort of like the THINK TANK creed, There are no bad ideas, even if an idea proves preposterous, it might just be a trigger to initiate somebody else's thought process that leads to the grand discovery .
I personally have no problems using my Respironics Gel Mask, it seems to do just as you suggest ... absorb any movement to stay tight. My only problem with the hard plastic parts of my mask is that I have broken two of the flimsy projection (I'll call it a post) for the top band attachment; I wish somebody would design a stronger attachment post so I don't have to lose a $150.00 mask for the sake of a two bit design of a post.

The balloon concept is sort of like an Activa. At least the contacting portion of it. But then they added all that extra hard plastic to it.... Your concept is definitely headed the right direction!

I think the only problem with the bubble-boy bed is that I think there has to be a pressure differential between the inside and outside of the throat. but I could be mistaken....its been a long day....

A dome around your bed would not work. Cpap works on the principle that the air being administeared through the mask is of positive pressure, meaning that it is a higher pressure than the air surrounding your body. If your titration was 10cm and you were in a 5cm dome, then your machine would have to be set at 15cm to have the proper effect. Why have a dome, it would probably leak as bad as your mask.

As far as a mask like a balloon... the Activa is pretty close.

The Activa is a wonderful mask, could be a little softer, maybe you could design a take off of it.....

We'd love you for it. Anything to make us more comfortable. Sleeping with the beast has got to get easier, the mask, the hose, bla bla bla.....

Thank God when I put that mask on I'm not Sleeping with the Enemy anymore.

I just wish someone could change the shape of the nose opening on the resperonic Comfort full face mask. Very top of opening is too small for normal noses to fit. Know anybody who has an 1/8 th inch wide nose bridge? Thats all the top 1/2 inch of the opening is. Wider on the under opening, but nose has to go thru the top section first. .
