Post by angimarie » Mon Jan 28, 2008 9:39 pm

open as soon as i fall asleep and i wake up with a rush of air....so i am waking up just as much...but i am feeling pretty good about coming home with the machine a few hours ago and already got a sort of nap.

how do i keep my big mouth from flopping open as soon as i fall asleep?

I am new here and do not have my machine at this time but during my sleep study with the machine the same thing kept happening to me so they came in and put a elastic strap around my head it seemed to work that night.

There are several tricks people use. If you can get your tongue to kind of wedge against the back of your teeth and the roof of your mouth, it will seal your mouth off from your nose. I can't explain it very well, but when I get it right, I can open my mouth and not lose pressure. The nice thing is that there is no additional "stuff" required.

Some folks need a chin strap to help keep the jaw closed. Others actually tape their mouths closed, or use Polident strips to stick their lips closed. I think there is probably discussion of that under the Yellow Lightbulb, "Our Collective Wisdom" at the top of the page.

Others are sure to weigh in on this subject. Keep working at it!
