sleeping in same room as another xpaper

Post by Guest » Mon Sep 10, 2007 8:00 am

So, I was in Richmond this past weekend for a race and brought my machine with me so even though I would be sleeping on a floor, the apnea would not be the reason for a bad sleep. I did not realize that I would be sleeping in the same room as another person with apnea who failed to bring his bipap.

The snoring was so loud that I literally had to wear my ear protection headphones (doubling also as my race radio) while sleeping. When the other guys I was with came in to wake us up, they burst out laughing. They had seen me with the mask for the past couple of races, but the sight of the mask, hose and me wearing the headphones caused them great enjoyment. I was referred to pretty much for the rest of the day as "maverick" or "goose" (told at some point in the day it was from the movie top gun). Anyway, it was funny and made me wonder how in the world my wife put up with my snoring prior to me getting the machine.

Wow I have yet to experience sleeping in the same room as another person with xpap. That could be interesting.

And yeah by the time we all get done putting all our gear on our heads we must be a sight! Between head gear, maybe chin strap, maybe mouth tape, and now possible headphones it's gotta look hilarious.

I have to admit I really miss having a head free of stuff while I'm sleeping but oh well!

I've slept in the same room as a family friend with a cpap. He and I made a weekend trip a few weeks ago, and that would have been about 2 weeks before my first sleep study was scheduled. His "experienced" diagnosis after the first night was that I would be getting a machine of my own very shortly! My wife had warned him that I was a bad snorer before the trip. So, he was kind of watching to see that first night anyway. He said I started out at a nice, not too loud snore for about 10 minutes or so, then the rest of the night it was more like power tools with lots of choking and gagging in between.

So, for 2 nights he got the raw end of the deal while I slept away - and I marvelled at how quiet his machine was. The thrid night on our way home we just slept in my truck for a few hours, and he didn't use the cpap. We had great arguments after getting up about who was the louder snorer.

Sure enough, I got to go back for the titration and am now awaiting the official results to get my prescription.
