Error 47 on Bi-Pap Pro

Post by betty303 » Wed Sep 05, 2007 8:33 pm

I am traveling with my Bi-Pap pro for the first time, plugged it in at my destination and I tried out a new mask to see how the pressure worked with it, and now it is beeping at me with an E47 message.

What's up?

I just did a quick search on here and it seems an E47 error means your machine needs to go to Respironics for repair. And if you're traveling, that is not going to be good news for you. I just received my Respironics machine back from being repaired today. It had been gone for weeks. I am hoping you have a backup machine so you can get some sleep tonight.

--------------------------

Here is a paste from a previous post:

Table shows this info for your error:
Code E-47

What may be going on
•Occluded or restricted pressure tube
•Defective flow sensor

What to do
•Replace flow tube
•Replace Main PCA
ERR_FL12_SENSOR_RAILED

Edited:

Well, there was a link in here to the errors in the manual and I just tried it, but it must have been too old. Maybe you can locate your manual online and check if you don't have your manual with you.

I hope you can get it working and don't have to send it in.

Thanks Sleeping Beauty for the quick reply.

Not good news. Guess I will just have to give up for tonight - it is already almost 11 pm.

I don't have a back up and the machine has only 22 hrs on it, although it sat in someone's closet for a while (years?) and I bought it used with only 3 hrs on it.

Sigh. Hope this is not a lemon. I will see if the local DME has a borrower machine to get me through this week.

Betty,

Is there any chance you got any water inside the machine?

Also, I notice you're located in Colorado.....Can I ask where you're vacationing?

Hi Den

There is a possibility I got water in the machine two nights ago, when I accidentally tipped things over. I got the noise of water in the hose, then, but thought it was pretty much just in the hose.

Then yesterday I forgot to pull out the humidifier chamber yesterday and noticed a bunch of condensation and stuck my finger a ways into the opening that connects to the chamber, and it was wet. I dried it out all night and all today it has been disconnected, in the Respironics carrying case, and on the airplane with me.

I wish I were on vacation, but I am working - teaching the last class in a 2 year program on meeting facilitation for people living in 3 cohousing communities here. I am in Ann Arbor for the week.

I should have set things up when I first arrived, although I would not have turned on the machine until I went to bed. I also use an O2 concentrator, from the local DME and they forgot a connector for the tubing - fortunately I always carry one with me, because this has happened before, but I had to remove one of their parts to make my connector fit.....long story short, it is past my bedtime ! But at least I can sleep with O2.

And it is HOT tonight - 80 in my room with the fan going and the windows open. Whew, I miss my airconditioned room at home, which will soon give way to Colorado cool nights.

OUCH!
I don't know what the chances are of it clearing its condition with further drying, but if there's still some water in the flow tube and it dries out, I suppose there's a chance...... If not, it may have messed up something on the main board.
You might try putting it in different positions to allow any moisture to move to some other area and evaporate.

I just thought if you happened to be in my neck-of-the-woods (NW WY), I'd try to help you out somehow.

Good luck,

Den

Den

What a lovely offer!! I concur with Sleeping Beauty about the generosity and help on this board.

Sleeping Beauty too - thanks for answering me within minutes. Knowing bad news is much better, by far, than not knowing at all. At least then I can create a strategy that is in the right direction.

When I first started this process 9 months ago, the first night I hooked up the machine I got an error message, put a question on the board, and got an answer right away from Australia, and someone else sent me the manual instructions to get me out of trouble. It was great

Thanks again. I ended up sleeping (well, sort of) with just the O2, which helps a little, but does nothing of course, to stop the apneas. Have a major headache this morning.

Thanks again for helping me out and kudos for keeping up the great spirit of this board.

Well, ya never know.....it's a small world sometimes. In my travels to and from work, I see lots of vehicles from CO, UT, ID, MT (and CA, too) and elsewhere. I realized after I posted, that perhaps "vacationing" wasn't the best word to use......

Not knowing how long you're going to be in your present location, I just wanted to inform or remind you that CPAP.COM has a "loaner" program that seems reasonable and they could overnight another machine to you if need be.

Best wishes,

Thanks Den. i finally got another BiPap Pro late this afternoon. I talked the DME down from $250 /mo charge they have to a $50 weekly charge, which they have never done before. Whew.

It took a bit of doing....my current DME in CO wouldn't do anything because I did not get my BiPap pro from them (I got it used) so I had to call my Pulmonologist to have them fax a new prescription because the one I travel with - for a Auto BiPap they would not accept, because they had no autos in stock. The Doctor's assistant would not just tell the doctor what my pressure should be, because he had written me for an Auto. (which were for the pressure I asked him for....a catch 22. So I told her to do whatever she could because I only now had 1 hr left to pick up the machine because this process had taken all day with the DME here - I finally got her to go with my recommendation to tell him the pressures.

(Who runs these shows, anyway?)

Finally it all got into place, keeping my very best cajoling hat on all the while. What an ordeal!
