Swift

Andrew:
Have you tried the different sizes that came with your Swift? If not, give the medium size a try.

Also, be aware that you can adjust the fit by rotating the nose pillow tube while it is attached to the interface frame. Try adjusting this and, the tension on the straps that go behind and over the top of your head. You may have the whole assembly too tight.

I found the Swift a bit uncomfortable at first but now, it is fine. I had to fiddle with it to figure out the best fit for me but it is, I believe, a really good system.

Good Luck!

Hi Andrew
This was posted today by the poster MarquisdeStyle
Something I did try, when things were so sore, is Res-Q Ointment from Burt's Bees. I used it only when I was up and about, not near the mask, because I figured it would be petroleum based, as it has a thick, vaseliny texture. After reading the ingredients, though, I was pleased to see there was nothing but nice things, like almond oil, olive oil, cocoa butter, and vitamin E in there, so should be fine with the mask. (DUH! It's Burt's Bees...all natural...HELLO???) My nose was much better after a single day of aplying it every couple hours, and I went back to the small pillows with no discomfort at all.

For nighttime use, try KY Jelly during in you nostrils during the night - it helps.

Good luck, I hope you feel better soon
O.

nasal pillows

Post by TennJane » Thu Apr 14, 2005 7:09 pm

Hi Andrew....

I too have the nasal pillows....I have been using my c-pap for a month now. I also had some discomfort at first, but it is much better now. Rotating seems to help....also having the right size pillow for you.

Don't give up...my life is so much better now that I am enjoying sound sleep.

I love my swift.

I found that I can loosen the straps to the point of almost no tightness at all and still have the thing work.

Rotating the nosie-thing helps, as does changing the nosie size (I went from large to med)

Now, how do I keep my mouth shut? Actually making progress there
I think it makes me look like a dashing scuba diver, don't you?

I'm really sensitive to the plastic they use too. I switch sizes of nasal pillows about twice a week because they will irritate my nose in different places, so while one abrasion heals a new one starts.

Sometimes I also put KY on the pillows or in my nose but I'm not really sure if it helps.

Some people find it helps to have a couple of different masks to rotate among. Swift one night, Activa another, back and forth. Anything to put the pressure points in a totally different place.

Hi Andrew:
Do not fret, you can try different sizes. The swift (I use it) came with 3 n. pillows. Being a woman (last I knew) I thought the medium would b just great for me. Well, guess what? I tried the large, and it's better. I don't have to have the straps too tight, get about the same leakage but do find it a bit more comfy. Try different sizes. Also, I read a few posts ago, that some people actually switch from one size n. pillow to the other, I stay with the large. I do agree awhile back, really wish the mftrs would go "medium'' "med to large" THEN large, and so on. Those tiny millimeters would make a world of difference to us swifties.

See how this idea pans out for you...let us know.
