Which one? c-flex or a-flex - help help

Post by Pam » Sun Aug 26, 2007 9:24 pm

First I want to thank each and everyone of ya'll for all the knowledge you have put on this forum. I'm a newbie and would have just been stuck with whatever if it wasn't for you. So thank you, thank you, one and all.

Now to my questions.
1. Which is the newest? c-flex or a-flex??
Everything I read says "latest and greatest"

Also from the internet dealers writeups about them they sound like they are both do the same thing.

2. Is there any difference in them? and if so what?

God bless and super sleep
Pam

A-flex is the newest.

C-flex gives you 3 levels of relief on exhale.

A-Flex gives you 3 levels of relief on exhale but a-flex gives you even more relief. Some people have even compared it to bi-level in terms of comfort. I have it and love it.

A M series A-flex also gives you c-flex and straight leaf blower if you want.

Go for the A-flex, it gives you all the possibilities in an auto pap and doesn't cost that much more than an m series apap c-flex.

Pam, you want the Respironics M Series Auto CPAP with Aflex:
https://www.cpap.com/productpage-advanced.php?PNum=2486

Your best buy is to buy it from https://www.cpap.com bundled with the Heated Humidifier.

You can run this machine in various modes - Auto (auto titrates between a set range that you control), Auto w/Aflex, Auto w/Cflex, straight CPAP, CPAP w/Cflex. I'm not sure if you can do straight CPAP with Aflex.

This machine gives you the ability to completely control your settings to your best comfort level, and to read your data.

I personally prefer running straight cpap w/cflex. I did not take well to Aflex. YOUR MILEAGE WILL VARY! There are many many posters on this board that LOVE Aflex, and prefer it HIGHLY over Cflex. I'm not one of them.

But you'll never know until you try all the settings. So, get the top of the line machine, and play with all the settings. If you buy it from CPAP.com, it comes with the DOCTOR'S INSTRUCTION MANUAL which tells you how to change the settings.

Then you need a card reader, and the software to read the card. OR, you can hire an RT, either through your doctor, DME, or even online here at the Forum, or at CPAP.com to read your card and provide your results to you:

https://www.cpap.com/advanced-find-cpap ... Assistance

A VERY NICE RT HERE ON THE FORUM read my card for me as a favor, and emailed me my results, after a two-week test run with the Auto w/Aflex. Using that data, I've reset my machine to a tighter window of Auto, and switched back to Cflex. I'm feeling much better with those settings.

Sorry we didn't respond sooner. Your question was kind of mis-leading. You're trying to compare the same machine to the same machine.

Hope this helps!
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Thank you very very much for all the info. I did find a site that told the A-flex machine does c-flex also, duh.

I understand that getting the software is pretty much now impossible. Any idea as to where I can locate it. I have special needs and it would help greatly.

Thank ya'll again

sweet dreams and God bless
Pam

Another vote for A-flex

Hi Pam,

I'm one of those people Babette said LOVES their A-flex machine. I agree with everything that Babette and Painterman said. If you pay just a few extra dollars for the A-flex machine, you get the option of using A-flex, C-flex, or neither, and can run the machine in straight CPAP mode or APAP mode, with or without ramping up to your usual pressure. I have tried all the modes and settled on APAP with A-flex, which I really really really really love.

I will also second Babette's recommendation to get the integrated heated humidifier.

My recommendation is a strong one, but qualified. While my experience with this machine has been extremely positive, others here have had some problems with M series machines. Some folks complained that the M series with C-flex makes a whining sound that coincides with your breathing. I found that to be true, but only in C-flex mode, not A-flex mode. Some people have had problems with the humidifier tank leaking. My impression from reading this forum is that this was a problem with the early units and has been taken care of. Lastly, some people don't like how bright the 3 blue buttons are lit, and put a washcloth or something over them to keep their room nice and dark. I don't mind the light from these buttons at all, but maybe it's not as bright on my machine as some others.

The M series APAP with A-flex is the most expensive M series (except for the BiPAP), but since you're going to be living with whatever machine you get for a few years, I think it's definitely worth spending a bit extra to get the best.

Good luck!!!

-Ron
