Interesting article on Sleep Apnea RE Tonsils and Adenoids

Post by vdol52 » Mon Aug 13, 2007 9:54 am

I found an interesting article online.

http://www.healthguidance.org/entry/569 ... iller.html

This is a direct copy and paste quote from the article.

Pauses in breathing while asleep is called sleep apnea or sleep disordered breathing. Most often adults are diagnosed with obstructive apnea, or sleep disordered breathing which is caused by the blockage of the breathing passage by tonsils and adenoids.

If this is true then why don't we all just get out tonsils and adenoids removed and problem solved????

I have heard more than once that the LAUP surgery is very painful and sometimes has repercussions like choking. I wonder if actually removing the tonsils and adenoids and perhaps the turbinates first would not be more prudent.

I guess that would just be too simple and easy.
Although as a child I was told by my doctor that my tonsils and adenoids were enlarged.
I guess I'll get that checked out by another doctor.
Thanks
